It's only a week since I posted about this but it's disappeared - so trying again. I desperately need a contractor to repair/rebuild my manege - someone who works in the Shropshire/Worcestershire area - or big enough to work throughout England.

I got 4 possibles - and a week later I have still only had a reply from one company. He's coming to see me on Saturday (I hope). But my husband insists on 3 quotes - perfectly reasonable for something that wil almost certainly cost at LEAST £10,0000. The rest LOOK competent on their websites - but are obviously unable to answer an e-mail enquiry and if they did it now, I would lack confidence in them!

Any recommendations (first hand or CLOSE to first hand) for someone/a company to do a fairly major rehab/repair of a serious mess. It will go close to being a new build.

KLH Arenas built mine; 10 years later it still rides well (sand and rubber). If you google them you will get the website. Really professional and cover the UK.

Fred Willis , he an absolute gent. Based in Cheshire. Contact via Willis Brothers Sandbach. They are groundwork experts, that construct and repair arenas. Totally trustworthy.

Another recommendation for Pegasus. They also did some yard fencing for me and there was no debris or dropped nails. They are very careful around horses as the owner is very horse aware. Tho I might put anther couple of thou on your budget!

KLH built mine and two others I have ridden on. All three have had to have surface moved around and two have needed surface adding to it within two years because the distribution seems patchy. He is cheap, though, and is great at groundwork.

I don't know if they're too far afield but they're part of a big national company so probably do the whole country. My daughter rides in one that was extended to about twice the size, drains all re-laid and had a new surface, all done by Day Equestrian, and it's lovely to ride in, seems to drain brilliantly, and you can't tell which bit was old arena and which is new.

Well - first potential contractor arrived today and - so far - I'm impressed. I know he knows his stuff (not least because I agreed with everything he said and the only thing he told me which hadn't been what I thought was dealing with drains. I knew I had at least two drains leaking and causing mini swaps and had assumed that unblocking them was the cheapest option but he tells me that just putting in new drains is cheaper and less time consuming than finding the old ones. I'm more than prepared to believe him because new drains are far less likely to get damaged in the next 5 years. He can do it well ahead of my latest date (which was just ahead of Christmas) - provided I give him a 'yes' within time he can have it finished early October. I'll have a solid quote on or before Wednesday.

I've e-mailed a couple of the ones above and have phone numbers noted for the others (thank you for all suggestions) - strange that 2 out of 4 websites in the same game had Captcha on line e-mail forms that failed totally to work.

Did you get my PM?

Do your research! Don't spend a lot of money in good faith & end up with a rubbish school like I did!

I've just spent another entertaining hour or two on my hands & knees in the rain digging out a 'high' bit where the membrane has worn through, ready to patch it tomo. I hate my school sooooooo much, & probably know every inch of it as I've spent so long repairing it!

I am sorry this happened to you. It happened to a workplace too, different company. I have PMed the OP to tell her the one to avoid! It was quite a high profile one, also went bust as soon as legal action was in the offing. Stayed trading under a (slightly) different name.

KLH relaid my indoor arena (sand and rubber) and I've had no problems with it since it was done in 2003.
