Help me find tags for feed buckets?

As a yard we have always used cattle ear tags to name feed buckets. But they were the "old" style and having now run out of stock I can't find anyone to supply them.

There bright yellow flexible rubber or rubber like plastic; 7 or 8 inches long with a bulbous label part some 2" x 3" at the base and a long shank above which threads back through a slit in the the body of the tag forming a loop. All I can find now are the type that you punch through the ear. And as feed buckets don't have ears I don't think that is going to be terribly successful!

So - any suggestions for a durable relatively bright coloured / visible tag which could be threaded through the handle of a variety of feed bucket types (Some use tubtrugs, some rubber feed skips, some plastic buckets etc). Either printable or blank so we can write names on with indelible ink. Sheep tags are too small small for this - the main label bit needs to be substantial enough that it can be read easily in half light. Writing names on the buckets themselves won't work either as most are black or dark coloured.

Anyone have any ideas?

Perfect! Bless you. I wasted nearly 2 hours looking for those things on the internet. I don't think I should type anything with rubber in it into google! The ones theocat had are exactly what I have. We did look into the key ring ones but they are impossible to get onto rubber feedskips and I was worried that with all the bits and pieces something enterprising might managed to remove and swallow it.

HHO strikes again - thank you!

How many horses? If not too many, colour coordinate the stables instead. We have 7 & each horse is assigned a colour for headcollar/leadrope, haynet & buckets. Might seem a relatively large expenditure but it's the most effective, most safe way and will save replacing broken/lost tags often.

I just paint names onto buckets. Works on most surfaces including rubber. I used to buy those Airfix paints but there is probably some cheaper paint you could use.

I use brightly coloured duct tape to tag things. It's a couple of quid for a roll but then it can be use for all things relating to each horse, just wrap it round the handle of buckets or trugs or create a tag (stuck onto itself) for other things. You can write on it too with marker pens.

I use sheep ear tags from symtag.co.uk. Cheap, colourful and they are happy to print whatever you want on each side of the tag. Highly recommend them.

I just make my own at work using brightly coloured paper and print on a sign "Minnie's Hay" for example and then laminate it, make a hole in it and fix it with a short length of bailing twine to the bucket handle. Its waterproof and lasts forever

Guys - thank you so much. Theocat had the absolute answer and exactly what I was looking for. It is great hearing all the different ways of marking buckets - but I feel a it guilty for having started a thread and got the answer I needed that the thread is still running on. I'm sure all the different ideas will inspire others and that is entirely what this forum is for - but I have found the answer I needed. Thank you.
