Help me lose weight for my horse.

eat little and often is the best way, also breakfast should be the biggest meal of the day and dinner should be the smallest. so eat a big breakfast (I always make my own porridge- cooked apples or banana, brown sugar, peanut butter!), then a piece of fruit 2-3 hours after. then a healthy lunch (salad, chicken, home made soup etc), then a snack 3-4 hours after then a small ish dinner! if your mum does not want to cook different dinners then just ask for smaller portion.

Get Graze boxes :) I get them once a week they are so lush! https://www.graze.com/
soo healthy and exciting when they arrive at your door. if you use my code your first one is free to worth trying. (L5RWL16)

dink tones of water! its sooo good for you and also helps keep your skin clear. even if your not thirsty just go and drink a glass of water- it also helps hunger pains. im 17 and have been drinking green tea since I was 15. 1 or 2 cups a day does wonders for your health and skin. im 5'2 and almost 11 stone- I dont think im ever going to get under 10 stone because Im heavy boned. I dont feel the need to loose weight at the moment because im happy with the way I look and so should you be :)

message me if you want anymore help x

Have you tried www.myfitnesspal.com? It's really easy to use, & you can log all your food & exercise. It's not like a 'diet' as you can eat anything you want provided that cals in = cals out. It works for me cos there are no more rules than that, so if I want a takeaway, I just do 45 mins on the treadmill.

When I first started it, I was astonished at how many calories there are in things, & how few get burnt off with exercise. I started off weighing everything to get my eye in, & learned to scale down my portion sizes too.

Def, def have b'fast. Can you eat porridge? 1 min in the microwave & it's done so v quick, easy & it really does fill you up.

Good luck - you can do it!

If you want to do it safely, and with the food issues you say you have, I really think you should be contacting your GP to help you with a referral to a dietician.

At your age, you don't want to be listening to all sorts of advice from all sorts of people online (not that any of it is necessarily wrong, but because it works for one it doesn't mean it'll work for you) and potentially causing yourself more problems in the future.

Good on you for deciding you want to take action for yourself - you're not massively obese at your stated height/weight, but as you know, dropping a stone or two can only be a good thing ;) Just go to a professional please. By all means ask for support here, but get someone medically trained to put your plan together face to face with you, and work with them to reach your goals.

* forgot to add. I don't drink fizzy drinks, tea or coffee, I drink a lot of not from concentrate juice and just plain water.
I had a bad experience as a child with cereal and cannot physically bring myself to eat it because of the various issues I have with cereal/Musili and milk. So I will try and eat a banana everyday. Sadly can't eat apples or carrots because of my braces.
:(

I was shocked the other day when I was really thirsty and got through a litre of pure grapefruit juice. I looked at the carton and saw that one litre was around 430 calories, so almost two mars bars! I never had to watch my weight because I was a useless eater. I was put on some pills around 8 months ago due to morning sickness not letting me eat until around 2pm (I'm not pregnant). Now I crave carbs constantly. I put on a stone and a half in only 4 months. Tried to come off the pills but the nausea was worse than before so went back on them. I dropped half a stone in the week without them so now am just a stone heavier than I used to be, but have to really watch what I eat. I never buy chocolate or sweet stuff now as I know I can't resist them, but thought that fruit juice was safe. Not so!

OP, if you only read one post in this whole thread than I think the one below is the most important one.

I am working with my gp. They can't figure out what is wrong with me :(
Another thing to stop anyone eating- watch man vs food.
Some of the things he eats make me feel physically sick! Haha!

I'm sorry, I know you're young, but has any of what we've put actually gone in?!

Everyone has said increase the meal numbers and decrease the meal size and eat more healthily. No one has said stop eating.

Always eat breakfast. If you eat something like weetabix or porridge then it fills you up for the rest of the day. This way you won't feel as hungry as soon. Someone told me that you shouldn't eat your dinner (tea) any later than 7pm. Apparently you don't digest the food properly when you sleep or something. Don't know if this is true, but maybe try it?

Get a gym or running buddy! This way it's more of a fun/gossip opportunity than a chore?

Don't calorie count. Calories are good, too much salt, fat and sugar in food is bad.
xx

Yes, it has. I'm currently doing some meal plans and am going to try and have a banana when I wake up one morning, with a glass of soya milk, then I might start making some homemade smoothies, like carrot and pineapple (sounds gross but its honestly lovely) then as the weather gets cold I will have porridge. I'm gonna ask my mummy to get me some dried fruit to snack on at break/snack throughout the day (but ill be careful because of sugar) I know when I get home from school ill eat a packet of crisps or something to snack on because I'm always hungry at 5. Then for dinner I will try and eat more vegetables and meat and keep carbs down. Not cut them out, but just not stuff my face on them either.
I do use myfitnesspal all the time and log my calories and exercise.
However, like I have said I won't be exercising much for the next few weeks because of my back, and in winter I just tend to go to the gym after school and go on the cross trainer (my highest thing has been burning 300 cals in 30 mins) and do some core stuff, like holding body weight up, sit ups etc.
For lunch I will try and have some kind of soup with salad as well :)
Really, I just lack motivation and want some support to help me keep up with this 'lifestyle' I'm sure ill loose weight feeding in the freezing cold anyway.
While on the subject of horses....
I fell off the other day And slipped a disc and concussed etc. I'm not concussed now but am not very mobile to say the least, my mare has a nasty cut on her bum. It's under her Tail and goes up between her legs, not deep or infected. It's like a big surface graze and is very sore. I washed it with salt water yesterday, and don't know whether to do her leg straps up on back legs? Also, it's not causing her any pain other than when touched. Not lame etc, just as if she's taken the top layer of skin off and it's sore, because its under her bottom I don't want wee/poo getting on it. So any ideas on what to put on her? I can only put it down to legstraps rubbing but it's happened overnight and never showed any signs of soreness before.. Hmm:( any ideas what I can put on it to protect it?

Defo do a food diary - you will be surprised when you do this as it is very easy to let little nibbles slip out of your memory! Note down EVERYTHING even a peanut or a slice of fruit!

Defo eat breakfast - a banana is absolutely fine and very good for you.

Avoid the evil carb - really try to cut down on pasta, potato, rice and bread and this will make a huge difference. If you cannot bear to cut down then try to swap white bread and pasta for wholemeal, long grain rice for Basmati as they are lower GI - get a low GI book out of the library and study it and keep one as a bible - it really does help.

Invest in some good scales at home!

Can you cycle? If so, get on your bike - to the shops, friends, school etc etc.

You are not alone - there are loads of us buxom birds out there and never let a skinny bully get you down!!

You mentioned you drink a lot of fruit juice, and I see that a couple of other people have mentioned that fruit juice isn't actually that good for you.

I used to drink a pint of the stuff a day, a nice cold tall glass full at breakfast and again at lunch. Then I looked at how many calories were in it! Ditto J20's, which is what I drunk when I went out so I wasn't having 'fattening' alcoholic drinks (not an issue for you op, given your age ;)). Your diet doesn't sound too bad at all, so it might just be a case of slightly smaller portions and watching for the hidden calories in drinks.

BTW, I weigh the same as you and am only 5'3, so I imagine you don't look too fat at all. I, on the other hand, look like a Weeble! (Google for all you youngsters!).

Good luck, I'm sure you will be very successful x

Oh I feel your pain OP, I was 15 stone at 15 and about the same height or perhaps an inch taller, you really shouldn't worry too much, it all dropped off me as my body took more of a womanly shape and lost 'puppy fat', now I weigh about 14 or perhaps more having put on weight again at 5'10 and to be honest I am only a bit more heavy than I would like (i think I saw 12st11 once, it flashed before my eyes in a very stressful period of life!), like you I would be thrilled at 12 stone, I think 11 would be a real stretch personally. Some of us are just built this way, I like to think it is my Viking blood being part danish haha! Or think of the amazons!

You could cut down on carbs and never eat or drink anything you like, or you could just get on and ride your horse and hope that poo picking etc will help you slim down eventually :-)

What a clever idea! Yes I will!!!
Unfortunately I can't leave her rug off as she is a wuss. I take it off in the day to let the air get to her but she's ready and waiting for it again in the afternoon, bless her. I will loosen her legstraps slightly, although I don't see how they have caused it (they're very flexible and not all stiff or anything) so keeping it hydrated is good? Not drying it out? Xx

Also.. My faith in humanity has been restored. I would like to loose weight but if I stopped at 12 stone I would be happy, whereas I was thinking along the lines of 8 stone last week, purely because I read these posts about these people that are 7 stone on their m/w or l/w horses, and say they'd never let anyone over 11 stone on them etc!

Would any of you mind uploading a pic for me? I can email you but I just do not know how to upload! :(

upload a photo onto photobucket or find one on facebook (that's not too large) and right click on the photo and click on properties. You will see the URL for the picture. Copy and paste it in between these HTML formats.

OP A lot of the skinny beautiful people I know were a bit plump as teens, and had some puppy fat. I was a skinny minnie but still started dieting at the age of 14 and now 35 years later have NEVER dieted successfully but have wasted 35 years being paranoid about food.

Please, please stop worrying and obsessing about your weight, and don't pay attention to people on here who think you need to be a size 8 to be acceptable.

You sound like you have had a horrid time worrying about your mum, and you sound like you blame your dad a bit for giving you inconsistent messages about food.

You are probably comfort eating, and not liking yourself very much at the moment.

A couple of things I wish people had said to me at your age tho are:

1. You look great as you are. We don't all have to look the same. (You certainly aren't too big for your mare) don't waste these years obsessing about negative things.
2. Your weight will stabilise as you become an adult, you will be fine.
3. You can take charge of your attitude to food. Stop depriving yourself, start enjoying food. Eat healthy food, that's all you have to do. Shepherds Pie - yummy!! enjoy every mouthfull, stop when you feel full & don't beat yourself up if you overeat and treat yourself, it's normal and human.
4. If you eat a healthy normal diet you will miraculously find your weight will become manageable, that's all you need to do.
5. scrap the scales.

Hope you are feeling better soon, stop beating yourself up & tell your parents/ teachers if you are being bullied.

Have you tried Slimming World? It's not a "diet" as such, just a really sensible way of eating. They do a special plan for teenagers called Free2Go http://www.slimmingworld.com/our-members/free2go.aspx
I've been following it for 9 weeks and have lost 16 1/2 lbs so far. It's really easy to stick to, but best of all you never feel hungry doing it. It encourages you to eat, and eat plenty but of the RIGHT THINGS. You can even join online if you feel going to a meeting would be a bit daunting.
Whatever you choose to do, good luck! :)

OP you're not going to be 8st. I'm 5'6" built like a bean pole and at 8st I'm underweight. You're taller and a chunkier build than me so at 8st I think it sounds like you'd be emaciated. What you said about aiming for 12st sounds much healthier.

If you drink lots of fruit juice that's probably where a lot of your calories come from at about 100 kcal per small glass. As others have said I'd swap to drinking water and use those calories for food.

There's a portion plate I've seen somewhere that guides you when you're dishing up meals. If your parents are both large its possible they're used to serving up over sized portions.

It's really nice to read some supporting posts on here and I also enjoyed a similar topic about weight v RS limits. There were some great pics of our forum members who looked far lighter than the weights they say they are. I think this is because we're fitter and stronger than others of similar weights. Think about all the workouts we're getting without realising it - filling nets, carrying water buckets, pushing barrows.....

Just wanted to point out that muscle tissue weighs heavier than fat tissue by volume, so the standard height & weight ideals might be a bit misleading for an active woman doing heavy duty chores on a daily basis. You may not be as overweight as you think :)

Thankyou guys :) I will make a photobucket account thing and take pics. So be prepared for very flabby belly's and tums to be sent your way. Then when I'm sound enough to get back in the saddle ill get pics from there :)

You may have guessed, the second pic is her with her old owner, as a just broken 5yo. Sadly I never have anyone with me to take pics of us together and riding, so I will when I get chance :)
This picture, however, is me (brown hair) and I weigh 14 and a half stone here.

Also, please don't criticise me on the lunging pic. This was when I went to see her, I am not a fan of horses with their head behind the vertical or LDR as some of you like to call it..
