Help me lose weight for my horse.

Yes, it has. I'm currently doing some meal plans and am going to try and have a banana when I wake up one morning, with a glass of soya milk, then I might start making some homemade smoothies, like carrot and pineapple (sounds gross but its honestly lovely) then as the weather gets cold I will have porridge. I'm gonna ask my mummy to get me some dried fruit to snack on at break/snack throughout the day (but ill be careful because of sugar) I know when I get home from school ill eat a packet of crisps or something to snack on because I'm always hungry at 5. Then for dinner I will try and eat more vegetables and meat and keep carbs down. Not cut them out, but just not stuff my face on them either.
I do use myfitnesspal all the time and log my calories and exercise.
However, like I have said I won't be exercising much for the next few weeks because of my back, and in winter I just tend to go to the gym after school and go on the cross trainer (my highest thing has been burning 300 cals in 30 mins) and do some core stuff, like holding body weight up, sit ups etc.
For lunch I will try and have some kind of soup with salad as well :)
Really, I just lack motivation and want some support to help me keep up with this 'lifestyle' I'm sure ill loose weight feeding in the freezing cold anywa

AntxGeorgiax, you have had some really good advice on this thread (especially from AprilBlossom), and I'm not sure if it's sunk in.
Fruit = sugar. Dried fruit = concentrated sugar. Really not a good thing to snack on at all, sorry. Not really any better than a bar of chocolate, natural does not necessarily = healthy. Pineapple = sugar. Banana = the carbiest fruit of all. Crisps - really not great. Why not have other things ready for a snack at 5? Carrot sticks, sliced chicken, boiled egg, there are lots of things that aren't sugary or mega-high-fat and carb.
Yes, definitely see a nutritionist (and get your doc to do some blood tests maybe?)
Very very best of luck. She looks a lovely horse.
Oh, and I'd change the straps if you think they might be rubbing her. change to a fillet string instead.

I thought I would reply as I was in the same boat (if not worse!) as I bred a horse who I hoped would grow, who never did! I wanted to ride her so I had to get on a diet.

I have been using MFP since April and am 1lb away from loosing 5 stone. I still want to do another stone ish but my weight loss is slowing down now. I don't count every calorie now because I now what I eat and how many calories stuff has in. I was really shocked about how many calories some things had, like jacket potatoes, I can't afford to have them!! I see dieting and calories like money...can I afford to have them!!

I eat 1200 calories per day. Most of which is very very healthy. I don't eat carbs, I don't eat much fruit (I see fruit as sugary water) I eat LOADS if green vegetables, a lot of soup, a little bit of meat and I always save a few calories to have a couple of sweets every day (I stopped eating chocolate though, it just tastes too sweet now) because I think the second you call it a diet you just want to eat everything!!

It can be done, it is boring as anything, my friends give me a hard time because I wont just go for pizza just because one day doesn't matter but it can be done and it's worth it (just!!!)

Good luck :)

Well guys its been a while, I've been eating more, but more of vegetables and healthy food rather than carbohydrates, so instead of 3 potatoes with meat, I've been having 1 potato and carrots, greens etc.
So amount wise I've been eating more, but nutrition wise I've been eating more correct portions.
Still a fat lump though!
Thankyou for all your ideas and support, I am really struggling to be healthy but ill get there one day,
Congratulations to Vickijay, that's brilliant!

Love those veggies but peas, carrots, sweet corn, pumpkin have more calories in than, beans, broccoli, cauliflower and the the cheese sauce on the cauli is a no no, so you need to learn what you eat as well. If you are like me bread, muffins, biscuits are no nos, even 1 slice and I can see it added to the waist line, so go for cracker biscuits instead.

Get a 2lt bottle and fill with water make sure you drink all of that everyday, use it for your tea, coffee, coolies and straight. Salt retains water so try to cut out use vinegar lemon juice instead, 2 sugars take 1. Full fat milk go for skimmed etc etc.

I was once 18ish stone now around 12-12.4. It can be done, I still think like the old me and have only just come around to feel I can ride at my weight, but still worry im far to large, though I'm told I'm not ( but still brought a mid/heavy weight cob).
I lost weight by using small plates for meals and eating loads if fruit every time I wanted something sweet or chocolate.
it takes time to see any loss and plenty of will power.
Don't be hard on yourself if you follow any type if diets you will slide now and then and will feel guilty but this is normal.
If you need any support I'm sure plenty on here will help including me :0).

Please don't fixate on your weight while so young - my kid sister was a cuddly teenager and lost her weight around the time she left school. Mum always refered to it as puppy fat. On the other hand I was a skinny and always looked like I needed feeding - not so now at 60. I was raised in the era following the war when parents insisted that every scrap of food had to be eaten off the plate. I still find it hard to leave food as it's been imprinted in me not to waste food.

Learn to eat sensibly, this includes a good choice of the various food groups, portion size and avoid snacking or grazing. Eat slowly and enjoy what you are eating - don't eat on the run, and when your body says it's full listen to it. Remove the plate from the table immediately and throw away whats left over before you convince yourself it needs to be eaten.

When I'm being good I can lose weight - I try to stick to a higher protein, lower carb diet. This is the diet that my body responds too. I think everyone is different so you need to discover what triggers your body to lose weight and also what encourages it to increase weight.

I find that any form of cereal based foods increases my weight - I retain fluid when I eat bread or pasta or rice. It also makes my head fuggy. So when I really need to concentrate and have a clear head I avoid cereals for several days beforehand. The reward for this is my ankles don't swell - I can think straight and my memory improves and my doctor is happy because my blood pressure lowers. :)

I'm not a great vege eater, never have been and the ones I like are the ones with the higher carbs in them! :( - I take a vitamin and mineral supplement instead. Avoid the 'not from concentrate' juices - it means little, they still contain the same amount of sugars, just made from fresher ingredients. If you drink pure fruit juice add water to it, or to make it more exciting make it with fizzy water with a Soda Stream.

Get to know your food groups
Proteins generally come from anything that can run around, swim or fly under its own steam. Legumes such as peas, beans, lentils do have protein in them but of a different grade. This group leaves you feeling fuller for longer as they are digested more slowly.
Carbohydrates all grow out of the ground - plants in some form or other. This group gives you additional energy but some burn faster than others and can leave you feeling hungry sooner.
Fats are found in both. The meat fats are not so good for you, but the vegetable fats are better. Some of this is spoiled by the processes they go through to become 'Table Spread, Margerine etc' - Butter may have more saturated fats but has not been messed around with by a whole load of chemicals
Do be aware that SOY can affect metabolism so it's worth removing it from your diet - have rice milk instead

BREAKFAST as others have said is the most important meal of the day.
Eat a high protein breakfast and you will not feel hungry for several hours. Scrambled eggs and Bacon with a slice of brown toast.
LUNCH - Bring something from home so you are not tempted to have chips or other not so good foods.
Dinner - Protein (4oz) is the recommended amount before cooking, a potato, and veges.

If you have a fruit juice - have only a smaill portion - no more than 100mls approx ½ cup. Top up with water. Don't drink cold drinks straight after a meal - can't remember why but something to do with fats.

For snacks, Nuts, fruit, raw vegetable sticks. Be aware that apples contain the highest levels of sugar than any other fruit. As you wear braces slice up your fruits and raw veges into thin slices or grate them. - it makes them far easier to eat. Carry a toothbrush or dental floss around with you so you can clean your braces if you feel they are getting food in them.

Finally find ways where you can increase your exercise so that your heart rate increases - walking is the best way, so if you can walk to school do so, walk to the shops, walk to the paddock, but make sure the walk steps are brisk so that you elevate your heart rate. Get off the bus a few stops early so that you walk the rest of the way to your destination.
