I have a problem and wondered how to deal with it!

My cob who is a well mannered horse has developed completely, for no reason I can see, a fear of the corner in the school, when I take him in he starts to prance around and keeps stareing towards the gate, now the only thing I can think of,is if there is noise's comeing from the end house which borders the school, but, is a good 300 yards away! This is strange and he is very strong, and bless him, tries to keep it together...but, you know he just wants to bolt it! This has happened when a friend took him to lunge a few weeks ago and could not get any sense out of him....and tonight when I took him down in a head collar to sort out a problem she had with her shetland who was being lunged at one end,he was not the issue here it was my cob who seemed transfixed to the gate and the corner!I have over two weeks added 'Speedibeet' to his feed(Could that be the culprit, just an idea, but has had surgarbeet before!) ,however he does not display any strong behaviour away from that corner of the school......am thinking of taking him down in his bridle tomorrow,to have more control....but, I'm at a loss here...any ideas! Thanks for reading!

Anyone else's horses having problems in that corner?
If not get one of them to give you a lead so he can see there is nothing there to get him. Horses have a habit of seeing monsters we can't. No sure what else could help.

No....every other horse is fine,my friend will bring his field buddie down with him tomorrow......I had a sniff of this last year, but, his behaviour was not so blatant, also he is the sort of cob that can go for weeks without being ridden...and at the mo, my nerves have been bad, sadly go through spells of this, funnily never worry about handling difficult horses from the ground.....also get frustrated as I used to hunt, jump and hack miles and want to get my cob on the move again(But that's a different story!)....so it's not that I'm feeding any tension to him from the ground!

Hmmmm. If it was the sugar beet I'd have expected more generalised rowdy/loopy behaviour. It does sound as if he's trying to tell you something. Have you tried letting him get a bit hungry then feeding him in the scary corner? I'd do some little-by-little stuff too. Walk him up to the point near the scary corner EXACTLY before he gets frightened. You need to watch his body laguage like a hawk to suss this out. At that point, walk him quietly in a circle. Stop. Polo. Same again, creeping a bit closer every time. Always do this on both reins coz things can look very different from the other eye! Have you walked it yourself? Anything different there? Always stop before he gets frightened. End on a high and repeat the next day. Nothing wrong with his eyesight is there?

My mare gets speedibeet, my vet told me that there is nothing really in it and doesnt heat the horse up. Shes alot calmer on that than when she is on cool mix.

She sees the other horses getting food and i feel bad that she wasnt getting, yeap there goes the silly mummy again!! Thats when the vet suggested speedibeet.

Definitely agree to try without the speedibeet for a while and a lead past the corner.

Good luck

It sounds like he's having a little nap to me........

My mare used to do it all the time at the other end of the school, and in the corners especially. I would work her up that end until she stopped messing around, and then used the whole school as normal.

Thanks for all your ideas, going to walk up in his bridle and do each night.........giving his feed in the school is a good idea, once I have cracked the worse, will go under saddle and work up to the gate, little by little.....his eyesight is fine.....strangely when we returned back to the yard last night he was all 'lickey, chewy' so was frighted, can be prone to napping....but, this was fear last night....to Gucci B yes she in the shop has offered her services...you know who!
