I am very pleased to say that today I took Poppy on what will hopefully be her final journey, to the amazing Greatwood near Marlborough:

Having spent the last few weeks getting extremely stressed and upset trying to sort this out (and working out how I could afford to keep 3 horses if that's what it came to), getting knocked back by charities who wouldn't touch her because she wasn't a prosecution case, I finally got in touch with Greatwood. Their lovely founder Helen called within about 15 minutes of me submitting my enquiry through their website and said they would take her...I couldn't believe it.

Bless her, she walked up the lorry ramp and travelled like a pro, and tonight she is tucked up in a huge stable with a deep straw bed and a haylage mountain to munch on. I feel sorry for her tonight, in just a few weeks she has learned to trust us and and now she doesn't know where she is - I wish i could explain to her that everything will be alright and she will never go hungry again...

Thanks for the update bluehorse and so glad Greatwood have come to the rescue. I'm local to Bristol and spotted that ad for her being given away which another poster mentioned on your original thread. She looked a lovely horse and hopefully now she can spend her days being given the proper care she deserves. Well done you for stepping in and resolving the situation.

that's great news at least she can spend her last years being happy and loved and well fed :)

Well done for all the commitment you have given this mare, you deserve a pat on back :)

MochaDun - it was thanks to the poster who tipped me off on that ad in Tradeit that she has ended up in Greatwood. I had been told she was an ex racehorse but people with old TBs often say that, true or not. That ad contained her racing name so I was able to verify through searches that she was an ex racer, so when Greatwood occurred to me it all fitted together. She was quite successful too, well bred with a couple of wins and several other placings. The sad thing is that the photo in that ad must have been taken years ago - she looks nothing like that now, just skin and bones :(

Bless you for not just complaining but for actually doing something. It brought a tear to my eye when I read your original thread and looked at the website. The mare you've rescued looks to be in fantastic hands. Whiskey is such a sad case, hope he finds a lovely new home eventually.

Missed the original thread but you should be really proud of yourselves for doing something rather than just ignoring the problem til it went away. I have just read all the 'about' bits for the horses at greatwood and they sound so loved and cared for. I'm sure she will have a wonderful home to see out her days. :)
