Firstly, are those of you who have them, pleased with them?
smile.gif
Any problems or faults you can think of to mention?
smile.gif

2nd - Where is the best place to buy them online, mostly in terms of price, but also service? (please incl. Ebay shops) I want to guarantee I'll actually get it in good time if I order one
wink.gif

3rd - Any probs, AT ALL, about them being in/sufficiently waterproof, or the liner getting soggy, because of it being attached separately?

4th - Is it only possible to order it with a 300gm liner, or does anyone know otherwise?
confused.gif
Ideally I would only want a 100gm one (so I could either have a 100gm, or 200gm rug)

4th - If you have a recent make of rhino, do you have the rambo in the exact same size? (I know I asked something similar the other week, I just want to make sure before I spent so much money, and Be is between sizes, so I'm faffing about what size to get her...
smile.gif
)

5th - THANK YOU for any answers you have for the above

Hiya, I have the Horseware range lol! I have Amigo's, Rhino's and Rambo's! They are all fantastic. I have been using them for years and have NOT ever had any problems yet **touch wood**
wink.gif

The reason I love them mainly is because the chest is really high up, and is really secure and doesn't rub.
grin.gif
I've had various other brands where the chest seems to drop and make the rug pull back, even though it appeared to fit. The worst experience I had was with the Taka combo.
mad.gif

I've got an 18 month old yearling who's 14.3hh and needs a 5'9" rug. Obviously doesn't fit into pony sized or foal rugs with the tiny chest, he has to have a big boy rug with a normal chest size! So I have bought him a second hand Amigo as he's going to trash it and grow out of it in no time!
crazy.gif
It surprisingly fits him really well, and he's narrow chested!
shocked.gif

I bought him for when it's really cold a 1200denier Amigo Plus Combo in medium weight in that gorgeous otter green for an absolute steal of £59 including postage!!
cool.gif
That was off ebay, from the seller called stu_will. They were really helpful responsive, and delivery extremely prompt!

Found another good website for rugs called trot2.com. If you spend over £50 you get free postage.
wink.gif

Horserugs4u.com is another good one, you've just got to keep your eye out for the bargains! The less stock they have of a particular rug, the greater discount you get! I got a Rambo plus off there the other year, I just kept a constant eye on the stock quantities and price, and purchased it when it got down to only 3 rugs left! Think it cost me around £125 ish
tongue.gif

Cybercheckout.co.uk is another good site. They do free postage with their rugs, and they are also on ebay called that too!

xx

Hi. Yes, thank you, but I am v familiar with, and have lots of rhino rugs, and a few rambos, but wanted to ask specifically about the duo, hence the post.

I don't like the Amigos as I don't think the quality is anywhere near the same.

I won't use Horserugs4u as they have far too much bad press about their service

Try Surrey Equestrian. They tend to send stuff out straight away. However their site isn't stock controlled so I'd phone first and make sure they have it in stock. Another good place I've found is RideAway, really good delivery reliability.

I bought a Rambo duo last year and really have not been impressed at all.

Firstly the velcro parts that the hood attaches to came off on both sides. My horse is kind to her rugs (she's had a Fal Viking for 7 yrs)
The Rambo looks worn out already compared to the Fal.

I bought a premier equine winterbuster turnout and I've found it far better than the Rambo and it was alot cheaper.

Thanks for the answer

Did you speak to Horseware about fixing it/a refund, as I understood that such aspects of their rugs were guaranteed for 3 years now...? I have lots of the rhino and rambo rugs which have the same neck attachments and so far they have all been great, but I am concerned about finding out if the standard (& sizing) has changed at all.

I'm afraid I bought a PE rug once, and not only was it over 2 sizes larger than I'd expected, I also thought the quality was most disappointing and sent it back. I wouldn't risk ordering another one.
smile.gif

The thing is, I want a rug (or rugs) that are/can be 100gm and 200gm, which are hardy enough for 24/7 out, and have a removable neck cover. And I am finding something that fits that criteria rather hard to come by!

fab rug fits great on Pidge
grin.gif
only problem is the velcro can lose a bit of its stickiness on the front and neck. I bought mine with the 300g liner and then bought a 100g liner to go with it (have a 200g MT stable rug I use when I need 300g).
However I bought the rambo excel in a sale and have to say it is fab, so I now tend to use that and stick a stable rug on underneath
grin.gif

no problems with leaking. if she's between sizes go for the next size up.

Problem I seem to have with the liners, is the nylon material they're made of isn't that long lasting. Mine have holes and have pulled away along the seems at the front where the liner is attached to the trim.

Not that impressed. Prefer my lightweight Rambo Supreme with a stable rug layered underneath.

They are doing a trade in at the mo on rambo - if you take one you don't need anymore (has to be clean -we did ours with a pressure washer ) they will give you £40 off a new rambo which I think would bring the duo down to just under £200

I have had 3 Duos on 3 different horses - two for 3 years and one for a year - all with extra 100g liners - have found them all excellent and all wearing well and didn't rub manes. Have used with/without liners, and love them. My horses live in them 24/7 (obviously taking them off every day to check underneath if not riding) as we have rubber mats and find stable rugs get too messy! The only thing I would say is that they do seem to come up a bit bigger than normal Horseware (had used rhinos before) which is fine for me, as I like turnouts to be big, but when used on its own, the outer is almost too big.

I bought mine from Townfields (normally slightly cheaper) and the last one from Derby House in their sale (think I got 30% off) - also worth mentioning they hold their value - I sold one secondhand for £150!

I have had my Duo for about 2 years now and am still really please with it. I find it fit's Charlie well, has never rubbed him and always keeps him dry and warm. The liners come in very useful as stable under rugs as well.

Mine came from Horseloverz.co.uk but not sure if that is still the cheapest.

As much as I love my Duo I think if I needed to buy another rug now I would be tempted to try the new Rhino's that the duo liners can be used with. My boss has just ordered one for his TB, a medium weight turnout, a hood, and two liners and it was quite a bit cheaper then the Duo.

If you haven't seen them here is a link to the actual rug, Liners and hoods do have to be bought separately though

I had one and wasn't impressed with it - ended up selling it. I actually found that the sizing came up small, and the already short neck cover slid down his neck. I wouldn't get another one.
I'd be tempted to do what others have done and get a 100g rug and use stable rugs as liners.

The Rambo Duo is the best rug in the world (in my eyes anyway)

My WB is a rug shredder and I have had my duo for 3 years and he has not once gotten out of it or destroyed it in anyway. Also being a WB I can find other rugs are tight on his very manly chest

He also gets very cold so being able to add and remove layers is fantastic and to top it off I can wash all of it in the washing machine each year!

I bought mine from Ride away but that was a few years ago now!

Yes, it's a good point, but all of my rambo rugs are in fab condition, cleaned & re-proofed, still needed, and not to mention would fetch significantly more than that on ebay!

Yes, thanks, it's just that I'm not looking for super warm. I'm buying her new rugs because now she won't be working, all the warm ones aren't necessary

Ideally I would only want a 100gm rug, but top quality, and with a removable neck cover. Hence I was going to buy the Rambo California. Then I realised that the the outer rug of the duo was 100gms too and wondered if that was a better buy.... Decisions, decisions!

Thanks HC2, but as I say, I'm not looking for warm, (I've got such a lovely collection of MW and HW rugs for her *sob*
frown.gif
) I want only a small amount of fill, which annoyingly there doesn't seem to be a rhino that fits that criteria!
confused.gif

Perhaps I should write a nice letter to horseware asking if they would make me a rhino plus with only 100gm fill!

Yes, I could do, but I don't like laying rugs. I like one rug only, and I like the nylon liners to the rhino/rambo TOs.

I think that as (I am guessing) most of the time she shall just want a 100gm fill, then I shall maybe go back to the idea of the rambo california....
smile.gif

(So annoying when I have an immaculate Rambo plus that I'd bought for her, grrr!

Merlin has lived out for three winters in his Duo now and it only got a small rip in it last year
frown.gif
He walked too close to the only bit of barbed wire in the field and snagged it
frown.gif
frown.gif

In my opinion they come up small..... he measures 6' but needs 6' 3" or it rides up over his bum when he puts his head down
frown.gif

Hasnt leaked, but the front velcro on the chest has never stayed done up ..... ever ..... even from day one
frown.gif

The neck velcro has been fine, but the neck cover has knackered his mane.... permanently I think
frown.gif
it failed to recover over the summer and now he has a bog brush at the top and baldy coot at the bottom
frown.gif
frown.gif
Not a good look at all
frown.gif

He wore it for the first time this week (for this winter obviously) and one of the adjuster buckles broke on the belly straps..... but as he lives out 24/7 I suppose something had to give
grin.gif

He has never had any rubbing on the chest, but does get a bit of ruffled hair on his flank.... maybe needs adjusting, but never managed to get it quite right.... It doesnt rub the hair out though so not really a problem.

The liners are a doddle to wash in the machine, but the outer is not really machine sized (not 6'3" anyway)....

I was going to replace it this year and sell the old one.... I bought an amigo 1200 with no fill and was going to use the liners with it as they fit just fine..... but I have new rug syndrome and it is still in the bag, while he wears the old rug
frown.gif

Good luck with your choice

Ooh, so you have a 6'3" that you might be selling without the liners...?
wink.gif

I was just wondering, without the liners, is the single main rug still nylon lined - I do like how the lining of Rambo rugs are great at keeping their coats sleek.

If you do decide to sell, let me know how much you want, and send me some pics - I presume that the broken buckle and rip are easily repairable?

The rug is still nylon lined.... I wanted the no fill outer so that I never have to use the rug without a liner.... its horrid when a rug gets that cold greasy feel to it
frown.gif
If I had a no fill rug I can just swap liners and be done with it
smile.gif

The rip on the shoulder hasnt let in any rain, and this morning I just roughly sewed it shut to prevent any filling being pulled out ..... the buckle that is lost is just the one that does the adjusting, so you can either replace it, or like me.. once you know where it needs to be you can just sew it in place with strong thread
smile.gif

It is a lovely rug.... hence I put it back on after being cleaned in the summer
frown.gif
frown.gif
But I MUST use my new one or it will just stay in the bag

I have a duo and like it. My mare is a naturally very warm horse and last winter on the coldest of cold days she got too warm in the 300g combo!

I found the neck cover that came with the 6'3 too small for her (cob-X, so good sized neck!) so have sold it on and will buy a larger one. (does anyone happen to know what other Horseware hoods would fit the attachments for a duo?!)

The main rug is nylon lined, so keeps coat nice and shiny. I got mine from Greenmule over a year ago, think they've changed their name to Millbry Hill or something though since?

Not had any problems with velcro not working. Only thing was the clip on the fillet strap needed some WD40 by the end of the winter, but that's bearable!

I'm answering this quick in my dinner hour - last 3 mins left - so apologies if not the right questions or order.

This will be the third year I have had my duo and it is my main rug although I have other rugs of various weights and makes. She is mainly in the duo because it fits well, weight is easily changed to fit the weather conditions and rain never seems to soak through...drys quicdk too. It can sometimes get through to liner if wind has blown it up at edges...mainly back end but on Emley Moor that is hardly surprising!

Cheapest place to buy when I bought mine was Hey Farm saddlery. I have no idea what their delivery service is like as I picked mine up in person - it's just down the road. They are Rambo specialists. I also asked question there about the sizing as ppl had said they some up small but they said just get the size you need - they have never heard of the small issue. I bought a 6ft3 as this was what my horse was and it fitted perfectly.

I haven't washed it from last year yet as I used it right into April...and I'm lazy. But the last time I did wash it it came up looking like brand new.

The liner itself is 100grams and I have bought all the other liners but only every used up to 300grams.

Got one for my 4 yr old. She's only had it on a couple of weeks but I'm very pleased with it. Sizing wise I've tried several diff rugs on her (friends) to make sure I was ordering the right size and it came up about the same....

I got mine for £160 off a company called Wynnstey? I had never heard of them before. I googled Rambo Duo and a shopping section came up and told me all the best prices. It came within a week. I was very happy.

Personally don't buy Rhinos anymore I had a lightweight as did my friend. The material wore really badly, like frayed, and both fell apart within 2 seasons. Not impressed. Bought a Rambo lightweight and it was as good as new a year later. (just sold it as lost my pony)

Just re read my post and meant to say outer iteself is 100g not liner. The only liner it comes with is 300g as far as I know. Velcro never stayed put on mine but it has two clips at the front which hold it secure anyway. I had my unclipped irish draught in the 300g and outer = 400g for depth of winter and just 100g outer for rest of winter. She was always the right side of warm....at the minute though she's out in a rainsheet. It was still 15 degrees yesterday!
