ok my mare was estimated to foal end april and still no baby! well today her bad is absolutly rock hard and i mean solid! and she looks well an truely uncomfortable. i know all horses are different but from your experiences is foaling looking imminent? im just having somthing to eat then going to pop back up to yard what else can i look for apart fron 2 legs on their way out?????

hi, your looking for waxing, dripping milk, mare pacing.
its very exciting, we've had a few foals now and its still an absolute delight to watch.

she may well have been bitten as it was very midgy today, last year my friends mare had this problem. is she swollen in both udders?

i know what you mean(duct). has the top of her bottom on both sides gone loose, sort of wobbly like a jelly to touch.

think she may have gone back to the yard eventrider, to check her, hope everythings ok, your right, she should just call vet if unsure.

Think you mean the 'milk vein' & this is normal to be a little swollen at this stage. I replied to you in NL, but second the others, if you are worried do get the vet to check on her. Without seeing her for ourselves it is hard to give 100% correct advice.

Good luck.

Have one 320 days tomorrow and her udders have been rock hard on and off for well over a week with a swelling in front of the udders. Drew off a small sample tonight and she is reading 180 ppm calcium and 9 poor on the refractometer so not ready just yet, if that helps. Her udders actually went down and soft with the bad weather over the weekend.

Hard bags are not abnormal and are like that as they develop, so don't worry, and she is still within 'normal' parameters as far as her gestation goes - we have just foaled down one at 365 days. Personally, I wouldn't be leaving an overdue mare unwatched, but then we have everything on CCTV from 320 days anyway, as I know how unpredictable these mares can be!

ok got back from yard at 2;30 am after pacing yawning stretching and what looked like contracting. and still nothing! she looks so not herself
