We have two spangles....our Springer LOVES puddles and will always drink from them, gulping down mouthfuls of the most gopping muddy water as fast as possible

The end result (apart from a bedraggled filthy mud coloured dog) tends to be pretty dodgy guts leading to 24hr starving then rice and chicken only....

Am really worried that he is going to pick up a nasty illness from dirty water or fertilisers (we live around arable land). Any ideas to get him to stop doing it?

And a picture of the little darlings...

Don't mind him going in them, just not swallowing them! The sprocker swims everything she finds but never seems to swallow it

Apart from the obvious keeping him on a leash in areas with puddles which I'm sure you don't really want to do, the only thing I could think of is carrying clean water with you for him to drink from. Maybe make it fun and carry a sport bottle or something and squirt it at him (one of mine goes crazy when you do that) so that he comes to you for water often and relies less on puddles to drink from and does mostly splashing instead.

Also, I suppose you could call him back to you when he starts with something that he loves like cheese or chicken or something?

Sorry, not great ideas and I doubt they would work - it is a tough one.

Oooo will try carrying some water and see - he is a nightmare as he now knows where the puddles are and s*ds off pdq with typical spaniel deafness

slinky unicorn - thankies

she isn't the puddle monster, but she is a mental swimmer (and digger) and will cross huge expanses of water to retrieve duck. Not necessarily dead duck either!!
