Will not go into why i stupidly went with THAT insurance company but if anyone could give me some advice i'd appreciate it.

In October 06 my mare wasn't right behind jumping one day,she wasn't lame but didn't feel right,my trainer also agreed after she rode my mare to,so my vert came out the next day and did a nerve block it turned out the problem was high up and she'd have to go into the vets for x rays, the vet then discovers that it's her hip that is to blame, although they weren't sure if she had pulled the muscle around the hip or that she had early stages of arthritus in developing in the joint. They then tried to do a bone scan but it was a 20% chance they'd do it successfully, they didn't manage to get anywhere with that so he advised field rest for 3 months and cartrophen injections every week for 4 wks.All went well,he said to bring her back into work in January 07 gently and see how she goes, touch wood she has come back better than ever but i still have no answers to what was actually causing her to be uncomfortable, she wasn't happy in left canter which makes sense as that was it is her right hip that is bad, circles have always been her downfall to.

Anyway as her treatment was going on i sent my ins company all her invoices etc as requested, they asked for her passport and they had it for ages before i finally got it back last month, after a lot if nagging they finally sent me a settlement figure 3 months back which i excepted but the cheque still hasn't come through from them and my vets are not happy, what do i do,i keep nagging the ins company but nothing seems to be happening,i feel bad for the vets but i just can't afford to pay the bill outright and to make me even more upset the ins company are still taking my monthly £45 out of my account

What shall i do to try and get things moving? I don't want to have a bad relationship with my vet but i know it's going to end up like that soon if nothing happens.HELP!

If it's who I think it is - they pay out 3.5 months after a "settlement figure" has been agreed

settlements agreed in jan have just been paid in may

change to nfu after you've got the payment

If you are with THAT insurance company and they have agreed a claim and not yet paid out, send them a recorded delivery letter with a date for payment (I'd suggest 7 days) and say that if payment is not forthcoming you will be contacting the insurance ombudsman and Watchdog. It worked for me!

I have a friend trying to get money out of THAT company at the mo,my advice is put eVERYTHING in writing and send it recorded, and keep hassling them, then change to NFU!

Can somebody hint as to who THAT company is??
I am with NFU and have no plans to change but just so as I know to tell other people. Have a very vague idea...but not sure!

I finally got paid out by them after much nagging and in the end I phoned up and played merry hell...I am afraid the chap dealing with it got a right mouthful (no swearing though) and I told them that if they did not pay the agreed amount they would be getting a letter from my solicitor requesting payment for all the lost hours I wasted with them when I am self employed and charge hourly! That seemed to work as I got the cheque 2 days later.!

If you are talking about E&L, I had a bad experience with them years ago, and would never insure with them again. I changed to the NFU who have been brilliant. I would never change.

im insured with ??? ???? and 5mths down the line they have still not paid out...apparently i put dressage on the claime form (meaning flat work excluding jumping ) they have come back to me saying my horse is not insured for affiliated dressage !! (hey this is news to me i was riding him at home in the paddock )

And now my vet has said he will not take on horses insured with this company he wants cash per visit no more credit !!

ooops!!! I am sorry H&H I am quite new. I must be just typing what eveyone was thinking then. So are we aloud to name who we like???

Don't worry about it Dusty - they've been named enough times on here before now! It's a shame people can't be warned particularly as they have leaflets in just about every H&H mag!

Yes thats true, every bloody man you pick up has them falling out everywhere!

My friend is currently trying to get £1500 out of them and they have been more than awkward, and her premiums werent any cheaper than mine, Im with NFU with one and Petplan with the other as he is 18 and they offer better vets fees coverage, I really wish people would stay away from THAT company, how they havent been shut down through trading standards I do not know.

Thanks I feel a bit better now. I always think a good insurance company shouldn't have to advertise the way they do in every equine magazine. My partner works for the NFU & I have all my insurances with them and have no complaints. They were much easier to deal with when I needed to claim for kissing spine, thank god I wasn't with THAT insurance co then.

Absolutely, I love NFU, the only reason Im with Petplan for my older boy is brcause NFU would only cover injury, not illness, I cant rate them highly enough otherwise though.

It would be good if people would collate their bad experiences with insurance companies, and contact the FSA (Financial Services Authority) (which regulates all insurance companies). That way something might be done. Possibly even talk to your vet and get them to contact the FSA with details of claims where they've had issues, as they have a broad experience of how quickly they get paid and how reasonable they are about putting on exclusions.

Thanx everyone for your remarks,i was told to stay with them as i could get more treatment for her leg within the year of her having the treatment but as i havn't had any payout still then surely theres no point! It's just a shame if i do go with someone else i won't be able to get any help with leg injury's.It's so frustrating,it's bugs me that they still take my money every month me,and just arn't paying for treatment that happenend 7 months ago,bu**ers!
