Try oiling his coat maybe? Think (but may be got the totally wrong end of the physics stick) that should help.

You could spray him with pig oil or baby oil from a plant mister then chuck his rug back on so it works it's way in.

I would be interested in this as well as someone at the yard was saying their horse was getting shocked from one of his Amigo rugs with Nylon lining and he is clipped but now wont let the rug go anywhere near him as he has scared himself with the shocks poor boy. Apparently his owner is getting a little shock at the same time as him. I'm sorry for barging in this post Timmy100 but I would be interested to know any suggestions for this.

I had this problem after I clipped my boy out.

I'm sure other people will have better suggestions but I did 2 things, I "earthed" his rug ie made sure it touched the floor before putting it on him, "earthed" myself by touching the floor before touching the horse and "earthing everyone by putting on finger on the floor and one on the horse!

For grooming / rug changing I wore thin rubber gloves as it seemed worse when I brushed him I could feel the static between my hand and him (I'm presuming the cheap synthetic brushes I use were the problem.)

Last idea would be to run something anti-static like bounce tumble drier sheets over the horse / over the inside of the rug.

A couple of weeks after clipping the static problem disappeared for me.

From a website:

By taking the proper steps, you can reduce or prevent shocks from a buildup of static electric charges. Dry skin rubbing on clothes made of synthetic materials is the greatest cause static electric charges in your body. Reducing or eliminating the ability of the sources of static electricity to build up charges can help to give you relief from the shocks. You can prevent shocks by remembering to ground yourself often.

My mare and I give each other shocks sometimes (seems worse when it is dry). I usually touch something after taking a rug off her (before touching her) - that way I get the shock and she doesn't.

Also I swapped to having natural bristle/horsehair grooming brushes, as I found the synthetic ones were awful for creating static.

Thanks for all your replys...last night i mixed 1/4 baby oil to 3/4 water in a spray bottle gently sprayed a light amount on my hands and a tiny bit over tim and it seemed alot better i still got the odd shock when grooming him off the brush as its a rubbish nylon one but fingers crossed things seemed a bit better..he didnt hate me so much and even gave in to a cuddle...
