We have a blind corner next to our field- its used by us with horses, dog walkers, kids etc. The road comes from a NSLimit to 30mph. It is 30mph about 3-400 yards away from this bend. They still travel 50mph plus.
I contacted the council - i know the speeding issue is global and not just on this corner, but i suggested a mirror so that we can see and safely cross! You cant always see the oncoming traffic. As well as us being able to see- the cars will see us crossing and hopefully slow enough not to hit us.
I have had alot of near misses, and with a 16hh heavy cob the impact will be fatal for all involved.
The council have said no:
MAINTENANCE COSTS ARE TOO HIGH
The sun may cause glare
Drivers may not see bikes
Ive heard nothing so ridiculous- and asked if the price of a mirror is worth the price of a life or 3??
Whats got my goat more, is that about 1/4 mile along the road there is- yes- a mirror!!!!! Which has never caused any glare issues, or stopped a driver seeing a bike.
Please help- whats the best way to tackle this, i have not respond yet as i dont want to come across nasty and petty etc I want to get my point across in a respectable, adult manor!
Any ideas on ways to tackle this???
