Help!! whats wrong with my mare??

Hi guys

Little worried my TB mare has developed a flaky scab patch ( it looks like dried mud but its not) on her hindquarters and it seems to be spreading in to little hard lumps down her leg, there is no heat or swelling

Any ideas????

Hard to tell without a picture but could be sarcoids?

Try this first - give her a good path in Nizeral - it won't hurt anything but if it is fungal will knock it on the head.

Pictures would be a great help

Could she have been standing under a tree or something which has dripped which has set up a reaction of some sort? Or might be rainscald that hasn't cleared.

Go on stick up a photo....

I saw a horse with a similar sort of lesion - I never found out what it was (will post photos later!!) but treated syptomatically to cover fungal and bacterial causes and over the next few weeks it did go away .

I would use a readily available shampoo such as malaseb (antibacterial and antifungal) or as Evelyn says nizoral which is Ketoconzolae just treating fungal causes http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/medicines/100004881.html

Sounds familiar is it flaking off in scabs? its a skin condition kind of fungal use anti fungal products and don't pick it needs to be dried up I used athletes foot powder as well. It cleared in about 2 weeks

Has she been out in a lot of wet weather ? Maybe it's rain rot.
