Help!! Worried!

my dogs just eaten a full chicken carcus in the space of a minute? i left it on the side, did something else and it was gone and theres not a trace of it left! im really worried.

what should i do?
 
What sort of dog is it? was it a fresh one? if it's a large dog and not cholking then I wouldn't worry too much, although may have the runs or sick some up at some point.

You can actually feed dogs chicken carcuses, although obviously you introduce them gradually and in smaller bites, until you know your dog can eat them safely.
 
Yes, is the dog choking? As far as I'm aware the main danger is the bones splintering once cooked. The pro's in AAD should be able to tell you whether or not you need to be concerned if the dog isn't choking. Sorry I cant be of much help.
 
was it raw?

Apparantly raw Chicken bones don't pose the same choke risk as cooked. Some of the people feeding raw diets give their dogs a chicken carcass.

If the dog looks quite happy at the moment, then I wouldn't worry too much, but he might have a squirty bottom tomorrow! yuk.
 
some people feed raw chicken wings to dogs as part of natural diet - what breed is the dog? If it's a labrador, or heaven forbid a beagel, think nothing of it!
 
If the chicken was raw then no problem, many people, myself included feed raw chicken. Cooked chicken can be a problem as it splinters, I would just monitor your dog over the next few days, the bones could cause a problem when he is passing them. Obviously if he is choking or appears to be unwell in any way then take to your vet, you may want to just have a word with your vet to put your mind at rest.
 
My guess is yours is a labrador????

My lab would do something like this, leave no trace at all, and then look up at me with a "what?" expression on his face if I shouted at him for stealing off the counter.
 
haha sorry i had to laugh at some of the replies on here! i am genuinely worried you guys!

yes hes a lab and yes it was cooked. been on the phone to my vets and they said to just keep an eye on him!

aghhh naughty lab!

Sorry, yes it might of sounded a bit strange, I meant to ask was it a fresh carcus (I automatically presumed you meant a raw chicken carcus) which perhaps was wrong to assume.

It's because we have 200 free ranger layers on the farm so I'm used to seeing the odd dead chicken or too.

oh dear, cooked not so good, but at least he's a lab, which is a good start. Why not let him nick that 2lb tub of Utterly Butterly he's got his eyes on while your reading this to help it through.
 
Oh dear hope he will be ok!

My OH's lab once ate a huge pot of drawing pins from a sewing kit. All came out the other end except one!!! So an operation was required.

Makes me glad I have a collie :)
 
I've got a lab/collie cross, he's an canine dustbin!

When I think back to the stuff he's scoffed in the past 4 years, I wonder how he's still living :D

He has also scoffed a whole chicken, and was none the worse for it.
Can't say the same for my bedroom carpet though, he deposited most of the chicken right in the middle of it about 45 mins later - Grrrrrr x
 
My Gsp once done this, to make it worse he took it onto my bed and hid it and kept running into the front room with tiny bits we couldnt work out where he was getting it from as he wouldnt get any till we were all sitting and sneakly caught him.
