Hi!

I would really appreciate it if you could take a couple of minutes out of your busy days to answer a quick survey for me. I am doing some market research on an idea I have had to provide a videography service at shows and wanted to gauge how people felt about this. I personally know that I would absolutely love to have good quality professional videos as well as photos of my round at a show. Friends try to video for me but it always end up blurry or they forget to press record or it’s far away and at a bad angle etc! So the idea would be to work alongside the event photographers and provide a video service which would video your showjumping round/dressage test/showing show which you could then buy on a memory card later on or after the event.

Thank you in advance. :)

There are a couple of companies that already do this - not that that is any reason for you not to also! PC Nat Champs use EventMix but I've seen other companies as well. There was one at the sunshine tour finals last year - but that might have been Hickstead's in house one that they offer at the Derby meeting. Might be worth checking them out as well.

Thanks Shay, I'll have a look at them! And thank you to everyone who has answered so far. I currently have 15 answers, would love to get a few more in so if anyone else can spare 30 seconds (the quickest time someone took on it was 32 seconds ;)) it would be very much appreciated!

Just to add, I think there has been some confusion! The videographer would not follow you round but be stood with the event photographers in the ring and video just your individual round. I could also look at providing a personal videography service if this would be desired as well if booked in advance.

I did this wayyyy back in 1986, when it was an old fashioned camera that recorded onto tape. I charged £5 per round then, and an extra ? per tape.

I guess it may be less popular now as many people have cameras, whereas at that time they were a novelty. I think the quality would have to be excellent, and don't forget the hassle with 3rd party insurance (recommended) and registering the business with the tax man.

Monty Roberts demos have there own camera man as my friend went for a demo with her horse and they filmed her, think it was something stupid like £20 for a disc.Nice to have a memory though.

Thank you so much to everyone who has answered so far. Special thanks to those who have left me comments and feedback, they’ve been so helpful to read and given me lots of food for thought and ideas, the majority have been very encouraging!

Red-1 and others who have mentioned the quality needing to be good - I would be filming with a JVC 600. So nearly TV standard - this video should give you an idea! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJRW1y6mZRA

Re: a few comments about editing. The videos would show both you and the horse and be good enough quality to be used in training/learning/development. I would also look into the option of providing edited videos aswell with a choice of categories being: training, selling and for fun (to music, without music, with or without effects etc.). I could tailor it to be pretty much exactly what you describe you want! So e.g. if you chose training, I could add in some slow motion clips after the original round so you could really assess yourself/the horse.

Very professional set up.
