Hi there, hoping someone can help!
My rising 3 yr old developed a hematoma on his flank two weeks ago, it was fluid filled very watery feeling - no pain - no heat, wasn't bothered about me poking around prodding it no pain or outside cuts marks etc. spoke to vet said it was very common espcially in young horses as blood vessels are so thin they can bruise easily -
anyway last week lump filled more and has turned into a more gel like feeling lump - called vet again he said very reluctant to scapel etc as infection usually causes more problems in this senario than the hematoma
It is staying same size now gone slightly harder although the more i read some people have them drained some people leave them?? does anyone have any experience of this on their horse and what did you do - please note he is not in any pain - moving freely, i can push and prod it he doesn't care - which is why vet reluctant to do anything but i am concerned - i understand they can take a while to reobsorb?? any experience please welcome!!
*christmas pud/chocolate log and 3/4 of a tin of quality street left on offer?
