Hera is a week old :D

Thank you for sharing her with us, I got quite emotional watching that, my Hera was a big part of my life for 27 years. I have a feeling that your Hera is going to be a super horse. Salty looks like a lovely mare how did she end up in an auction?

awww :) hope so. She is a lovely girl, she has a super temperament, really happy go lucky and very easy to have around. she is everyone's friend.

I'm not sure exactly what happened with her but it's definitely not a great story. I spoke with her breeder at one point and she was surprised and saddened that she had ended up there, apparently she thought she was selling to a long term home but reading between the lines i think something has gone wrong at some point and she ended up changing hands a bit. She has got a lot of scar tissue in her bum and has sustained a neck injury at some point too so it seems like she's had a significant accident some way along the line. Despite all that she is such a trier so it broke my heart a bit to see her x rays. The vet said it was a testament to her good nature that she did so well under saddle, she's clever and kind. I know at least one yard she spent some time in is one that has a pretty bad reputation round here, and given that one horse is said to have died there during loading practice i wouldn't be too shocked if that's when she hurt her neck. She didn't sell in the ring at auction, as her owner had set quite a high reserve. OH talked her down quite a bit outside. I am wildly sentimental about her breeding as she's closely related to Millie on the stallion side and she was a heart over head purchase that's for sure. it was sweet, the day we bought her, I had seen her in the catalogue and it was just when Millie retired so OH agreed I needed a project. i headed over to the sales with the lorry, just in case ;) walked round the pens and she wasn't there. *cue sad face*. OH arrived and we watched some horses go through the ring, nothing else particularly appealing except one sec D that was overpriced and some real pulling-on-heartstrings duff ex racers (lame so not permitted to buy!)

anyway just as we were preparing to give up and leave, a lorry turned up with Salty and a few other random crappy horses. She was covered in soppy droppings and really sweaty but covered in coat shine. She was the only one that was ridden in the ring all day, she looked green as grass but quite genuine. Anyway the auctioneer was bidding off the wall, it was clear she wasn't going to make reserve. OH made us wait for a few more to go before going outside to see the bloke (I'm an auction numpty, i would have shown my cards straight away!) she was in the pen with the most disgusting tack on, let us poke and prod her all over quite happily and eventually the bloke got the owner on the phone and the deal was done. She had spent 5 hours on the lorry getting there but loaded and travelled home like a pro.

Oh wow!! Another Update baby!!! She looks just like my Update baby!! Same white sock and similar face marking. My girl’s face marking looks like a ? lol. Have you joined the Update FB page?

My girl was 11 this year and venturing into Advanced Medium. Our flying changes are more flying than change at times but steady progress! Should be a fair few pictures of her on the FB page, bright bay dressage diva can’t miss her lol

She is Lovely and Nice Name! :) In the Indian Language, it means Diamond. Is that what you named her?

She is, it's been a total pleasure to spend lots of quality time with her. Lovely Big Orange ? I wouldn't know where to start with assessing foals but we're in it for keeps so I can learn on the job ?

Oh, goodness, I think it would have broken my heart to leave her! She definitely landed on her feet with you.
