Went to see Osha.
She’s an interesting character!
Predictably a bit timid, but wanted to hang around us the whole time and inquisitive.
A hunt ride went out from the farm and she was interested, but didn’t get wound up at all, seemed unbothered by the cars and quads etc..
She is SO gangly, she just looks all legs. She really needs to fill into her frame and I think will look like a different horse in a few years.
She certainly needs a decent time out at grass and being a horse but I’m looking forward to working with her in future.. think she’s going to be a fun one!

Well she’s got a good walk so that’s a bonus and I think she is going to be pretty big, how tall is she now, roughly ?

She’s got be 15.2/3hh I would say but I wouldn’t be surprised if she grew another few inches. I think she’s going to be quite substantial!

Popped to see Osha again this morning to drop off a couple of rugs and see how’s she’s getting on.
She is super sweet, came over when we arrived and followed us around the field - super inquisitive but still very much a bit feral and unsure, which suits me just fine as when she’s ready to come home I am really looking forward to starting all the ground work and basics with her.
I am slightly concerned she is going be rather huge! She’s the most immature looking three year old I have ever had - slightly scared of how big she might end up!
She’s officially finished her quarantine period and will be going out with a herd from next week, currently out with an older mare. She seems very content and chilled - also starting to put on some condition slowly.

After 7 months of Osha being an hour away on youngstock livery, she is on her way home.
I am slightly terrified! She is pretty much unhandled but luckily the super yard owner managed to catch her and she walked straight on the box.
She should hopefully be here soon and then the hard work can begin!

Well she is home..
What a sweetheart. Travelled a couple of hours to a friends yard to pick up a companion pony, then over to us.. walked off the box straight into the barn and started munching.
She is super timid of people, but hopefully she will soon learn that people mean good things.
Her feet desperately need a trim so that is priority, to get her feet handled and her comfortable with human touch.
Really pleased with her attitude though.
She is a lot taller than I remember her being and bum high

Shes going to be big all over. Shes going to make for cracking then and now photos in a couple of years. You'll hardly recognise her.

I totally agree! She’s is very narrow and leggy, I think she will be one of those that suddenly beefs out around 7/8 years old.

Well got her out to the field without much drama.
We only have the two of them at home so really keen to try and eradicate any separation anxiety from the off. So lots of practice leading too and from the field one at a time.
She picked it up pretty quick and settled.
The difference in her in a couple days is amazing - from very fearful to coming over to us by choice and wanting to hang out with us.
She does seem to have a bit of a reaction of if I’m not sure I’m going to show my angry face, but as soon as she realises all is good, it disappears. I think this is purely her being defensive and unsure, as this is getting less and less and generally seems very sweet.
She is bold as brass with loud scary things, my other half has been strimming and mowing all around her and she doesn’t bat an eye.

Oh she looks like a cracker, you've got a good eye. @ImmyS I have severe barn envy! Unfortunately my OH values his tractors and machinery more than my darling time and money sponges. I will be not so subtly showing him your pictures!

Had her first farrier visit.
Went much better than expected. She has grown in confidence a lot over the last few days but her legs and feet really are her sticking point and most defensive area.
Farrier is very kind and no nonsense which I think she appreciated. Just nipped them this time to remove the excess growth and keep it short on sweet. Will build on her foot handling. Just glad to have got them done as they were pretty terrible.

Amazing what a few days of kind handling can do.
From cowering at the back of the barn to supervising the other half putting up her scratching brushes!
We also measured her and she’s not far off 17hh
