Hello everyone. I haven't posted on here for ages have been keeping quiet for fear of tempting fate but at long last I feel confident enough to tell you all the good news - my boy has been sound since Jan - yay...

Its been a long road - don't want to bore you all but in a nutshell he's my first horse only had him 18 months. For the first 6 months he had major issues settling in and frightened the life out of me...or at least thats what I thought but looks like he was in pain because he went lame and has been lame ever since...well until about 2 mnths ago...

When he first went lame he had a series of abcesses...then he was diagnosed with CJA and treated, then finally about 4 months ago he was diagnosed with Navicular given tildren, navilox and remedial shoeing and now he is sound, back in gentle work not on bute and going from strength to strength. Finally I have the lovely horse I always wanted...the boy has come good, he's an absolute sweetheart and I adore him x

I just wanted to share...have been too scared to say it but I'm riding him at least 5 times a week (only gentle) and even though I keep thinking he will go backwards he hasn't and its about time I started to celebrate that...so I'm saying it loud and saying it proud...

Thats brilliant news, congrats :) Mine had a chipped navicular bone and after remedial shoeing and one cortisone injection (think thats what its called!!) was sound. He worked 6 days a week, only change was that he didnt like to jump in the summer as the ground was a bit hard. Good luck with him and i hope you's have many years of fun :D

Thats great! My friends horse has navicular, he has had the injections and was turned away for a year (took shoes off against vets advice!) and now has him back in full work, she jumped him for the first time properly the other day and hes still sound (only about a metre but he was a showjumper)- he was shod again before coming back into work but it saved a lot of money on remedial shoeing! Its great when they come good :)

Thats really good news for you, I know how you feel. My mare recovered after a tear to her DDFT, she had remedial shoeing and cortisone injections into her navicular bursa. Personally I would take advice from your vet and farrier before you make any decisions regarding shoes as someone else suggested above. Even moreso if you are still within your insurance period. My mare has stayed sound now for over a year and its a great feeling.

Long may it continue for you both, good luck!

Yay good for you.
Mine is sound with navicular thanks to remedial shoeing - Im sure barefoot works for some but didnt work for me :( however after several years off with intermitent lameness she is in full ridden work now and doing pretty well out competing!
There is life after navicular!
