Find me a horse, or start the process of sending me adverts to dither over.

I'm looking for an unbroke three or four year old, ideally Highland, Fell, maybe Welsh D, maybe Arab, but it needs to be sane, intelligent, surefooted, and a nice person to be with. The person breaking it in will be me, and while I'm comfortable backing sane, generally cooperative horses, I don't want crazy ones. So nothing super hot. It also must have great conformation and even better feet. It will be doing very long trail rides, dabbling in dressage, and occasionally popping fences no bigger than 2'6 (because I'm chickensh1t about big jumps). Doesn't need to be the next Valegro, but I want enough lightness in its movement to play about with shoulder-in, half-pass, that sort of thing. In the distant future, obviously.

I'm in Glasgow. Would really rather not have to schlep to the ends of the earth . Closer the better. Prefer mares. Prefer things that are not grey, because melanomas.

Would you buy unseen? If you would then I’d strongly recommend trying Maesmynach Stud, but I think they’re about 500 miles away from you and travel that far won’t fly under current COVID regs.

Ideally not. But that could change depending on whether or not it looks like my horse becomes ridable again in the next few weeks.

I've sent you a PM with details for the person who sources highlands for people. Most of them don't ever get publicly advertised, but if theres one for sale that meets your spec, she will know of it.

The palomino Welsh D cross and the black ArabXPRE have my attention. But the Welsh is in Ireland and the filly gets me another horse I can't ride for the next four years. It seems slightly crazy to buy one I can't ride for however many months it takes to back it, but still less crazy than four years.

If COVID were not a thing, I would be considering flights to Ireland at the weekend. Blah. That mare is looks so pretty.

Would also consider PRE or crosses if I could find an affordable one of the right age.

I'll contact the person Littlewill directed me to. Seems as if breeders don't advertise a lot of their stock on general websites. My vet has his eyes open as well. Says one of his clients breeds Highlands and he will be at her farm in the next week. This feels exhausting. It was easier last time.

Oh I would love an Arab X pre one day. Nicola Evans (she's on FB) helmside fells often has smart looking fells available.

I like the DabDab posted. Fife isn't so far away. She's at a dealer's. Anyone got any intel on the dealer? Raith Equestrian.

To answer Cloball's question, not smaller than 14hh but not bigger than 16hh. I guess a really solid 13.3 or something would feel big, but Gypsum is 16.1 and I certainly do not want bigger.

Dryrot had a Highland stud, didn't he? He hasn't posted on here in a while. Did JFTD's horses come from his stud? She seems to have disappeared as well.

I think one of them did, but I'm not sure about her older one.
I'm pretty sure dryrot had a dispersal sale of sorts a couple of years ago - might be worth searching on here because that's where I would have read about it.

It looks like he was in the process of having a dispersal sale and is now selling nothing due to lockdown. Sort of wish I'd done this last year and been able to look at his horses, but Gypsum was going so damn well that I did not think horse hunting was a particularly urgent thing to do. In hindsight, that would have been a good time to buy a 3-year old, but when your 27-year old looks like she will go on forever, it's easy to think, "I don't need to be supporting two horses just yet."

A friend of mine in Central Scotland breeds gorgeous fells. I'm not sure if he has anything suitable at the moment, or if he's temporarily closed due to lock down. I'll PM you his details if you would like?

She's probably not right for you but popping the link on costs nothing, so I'll add it just in case she tickles your fancy. :)
