not forgetting that Ontario, as a Province, is SEVEN times the area of England (or is that the UK?) Plenty of room for all.

Certified Farriers are like rocking horse poo in the south, people 'calling' themselves Farriers/Trimmers are under every stone though.

Ayrshire - we probably are verging on having too many, I can think of maybe 5 different farriers that come into our yard alone! There are plenty of decent ones too, we're a bit spoiled!

Newcastle, The North East have a shortage!!!

Ill second that one! Nobody will take on yards or new clients!

North lincs seems to be ok for farriers. I can come up with 3 in our area and I'm sure there are more. But the one thing some seem to lack is an "empathy" with the owner and horse. They are all male and seem to look at the horse as if it were a car. I would also like discussions on "How their feet are wearing and what they are doing to keep them even" etc. If I ask they seem to think I am "questioning" their competence. So as most horse owners are women. Do yourself a favour and make yourself the most popular farrier around by asking questions about the horse and how it's going and explaining what you are doing and why. You'll be putty in their hands. Good Luck.

Interesting that so many people have differing views on Cardiff and the surrounding (Vale of Glamorgan) area. I'd say we have enough. There are 4 different ones that come to my yard and I could name at least another 5 that work in the area. I have only used two of them (who are both great and reliable) though, so couldn't comment about how good the others are.

Re: Cardiff
Yeh its mad how we've all got such different views! I think my main problem was that I'm not on a yard and not many farriers wanted to come and do a foot trim and one set of shoes.

I wish i'd used this forum when i was having problems finding one!

I assume you have one now but if you need any names PM me.

i love my farrier but other than him i would say edinburgh has a shortage of calm farriers who dont scream and shout/hit the horses.

Total shortage of Registered Farriers in NI, and good ones of any kind for that matter. And I happen to have a forge on my yard that only gets used about one day a month (because somebody spends more time fishing than shoeing horses

Hertfordshire, M40 to Watford way =loads but only a few good one's, my one is GREAT he texts if he's going to be late!!!!
Warwickshire, Henley to warwick =loads but again only a few good one's, my one is fantastic but has been known to not turn up/be very late.
Cotswolds Broadway area = ment to be loads but still on the look out for a good one that doesn't charge a fortune!

Bristol area - there are enough farriers, although all the ones I know seem to be busy so probably room for more! Some good, some not so good, some very reliable, others not so much...

my bit of somerset (bang inbetween temsik and lanky, burnham on mud area (sorry sea!))

am not sure how many GOOD farriers there are, was certainly relieved when I found a good replacement for the first one who decided to emigrate to australia (can't think why anyone would want to do that weather maybe!?) Though since I do know of at least a couple more good ones, though I can also think of 3 local to me who I would not let shoe my horses having seen examples of their work.

Let's put it like this, for a start, there are an awful lot of British ex-pats here who aren't used to anything else and expect a certain standard.

There certainly wouldn't be a shortage of work.
