So I really need to buy some new boots for competing in, and as we're all dressage'y now I would love some advice of what to buy!

Really want full patent, I am a lover of all things shiny :D but do just want plain shiny no extra bling bits really. Now the bit I'm unsure of, is the full on dressage boot is very stiff I'm led to believe. I've never ridden in such boots, and like my flexible ones...

Are they better to ride in?

I have seen some amazing ones where they had a softer leather on the inside so you would feel more connected to the horse and like this idea.
The other thing is where can you go and try some one? I think I would feel better if I could try some on before spending so much dosh, but most local stores don't do the dressage type boots? I'm a size three and have short, fat legs (well according to boot manufacturers anyway :D) so standard sizes don't always fit.

I'm happy to have made to measure and do a bit of saving up to get the perfect boots, but a little unsure where to start looking? What makes do people recommend, and where did you buy yours?

I have had a nosy on ebay as wouldn't mind second hand on account of not knowing if I will like them to ride in, but people seem to only be selling giant sizes, I can't be the only petite footed person out there :D.

So HHO shopper's over to you :).

whereabouts are you in the country? I drove rather a long way (about 3 hours!) to try on some Konigs as I thought I wanted some but wasn't sure. It was worth the trip, and I love them. I had very flexible boots before. The Konigs make me ride better - too uncomfortable if I don't ;)

Ultimately it's a very personal choice but I like the stiffness as it stops my stupid hypermobile ankles from flopping all over the place. You learn to feel more through your seat IMO when you can't feel so much through your leg - there is still feedback from your leg but it was light someone shone a spotlight on my seat, the day I got mine.

I tried them on a Classic Dressage, they were helpful and had a deal on.. I think they have Petrie in stock as well. I bought a second shiny pair for shows when I knew what size i needed -got them second hand on ebay for a song, already worn in :wink3:

I'm in the North West, Manchester to be precise but very happy to travel to try some on! Will have a nosey at Classic Dressage and where they are, thanks.

I'm interested to see how I find them to ride in, though my riding is bad enough without my clothing making it more obvious ;). Would love to get second-hand to try first but no-one wants to sell any small sizes it would appear :(.

edit to add, I googled and it would be a four hour drive so google maps offered flying as an alternative route as it would only be an hour :D

Cool Equestrian would be closer to you in Cheshire, or maybe Equiport - not sure if you can go and try on there but worth a phone call.

*definitely* recommend trying on though, I only know about Konigs but the foot size is giant so you will need to go down at least half a size. Dunno about other brands.

OH. Forgot about this but your post just reminded me:o. I had bromonts before, and when I got my konigs my trainer told me it was the best thing I'd done all year and she was going to suggest to her other clients that they should buy some. I think she was joking... :wink3: but I agree with her, they do help rather than hinder if you get the fit right.

Oo Cheshire is do'able! Will google and call.

Though that sizing is worrying, do they do a a 2.5???
:o I ride in Bromonts at the moment, though if they improve my riding I'm all for it, especially as Topaz is off to boot camp whilst I'm on hol so it would be nice if I can then ride her as well as my instructor :D.

Petrie a million times over. I have bought five made to measure pairs and love them all. Have two pairs of patent ones- one pair are abit OTT for dressage but I love them and the second pair are abit more refined but Petrie were great and did lots of detailing on them that I wanted. They have suede on the inside leg for better contact which I love! Really recommend Classic Dressage for boots, the staff are so lovely and helpful.

Donadeo Matteo from Joshua Jones.

way way more comfortable than Petrie or Konig(and i have had both those previously). They have the softer inside leather.

They are far more shaped at the top too so they will never drop too low and look silly.

No one has mentioned Celeris boots. I don't own any but they have become very popular, are reasonably priced and there are lots of styles and types of leather and different colours to choose from. It's an English company and I think the lady will come to you for measuring, etc. I'm sure they are on Facebook and also have a website.

I am getting equitector boots as I have long but fat legs and they are sadly the only ones that will fit. But they are very nice and when I tried them on they made my leg feel way more secure than my other boots, which are currently country boots that are too big for me now.

I think they have patent ones but not too sure. They are expensive but are good for any leg size and they are made to measure.

I've got Petrie's and Celeris (and have had Konigs in the past - they didn't last long!). I loved the Petrie's until the celeris arrived. They are fantastic, huge amounts of choice, you can have anything you want!
