i have 2 horses that have both suffered from hiccups. the pony suffered them when we were competing in scotland (from northern ireland) last year, and last week the horse suffered a very violent bout of hiccups at an event! both were very uncomfortable...

why do horses hiccup?

My 5yo TB has bouts of hiccups ocassionally. I asked my vet about it last time he was out and he said that it happens alot in racehorses and is most probably caused by a mild calcium deficiency, but not to worry about it unless she starts doing it ALOT more.

My friends horse hiccups if she tacks her up in the morning ....

She is fine if ridden at night, it's just mornings. I think in people hiccups are caused by various reasons - bolting food, stress etc. I don't know if it is the same in horses or not but I would think so.

dunno what breeze, vinegar cured my hiccups isntantly, but doubt if my horse will drink the stuff
