Hi. Bit of background. My dogs problems started about a month ago, with weeing and excessive thirst, fine in herself, so took her to the vet.
Blood and urine sample tests, showed liver enzymes 1% above normal and UTI. Was started on three weeks antibiotics. Loss of appetite, this was resolved by changing to fish and rice. Also pacing, leathargic, disorientation, set in after two weeks. Back to vet, on drip over night. Much improved.
Stopped antibiotics.
A week later symptoms slowly returned, with twitching. Back to vet. Hospilised for two days, asked if eaten anything such as slug pellets, no, only change had been antibiotics. Vet thinks probably liver shunt. But not ruling out all manner of possibilities.
Liver enzymes very high. Discussed options with vet, agreed to bring her home, see how she is for a few days. Pacing and disorientation much the same.
More antibiotics prescribed.
My dog is 12. I do not wish to put her through lots of invasive tests.
Have read up about diet options for the liver.
Anyone have any experience in this field.
Many thanks.
