Hilary Devet - Muppet

Have said it before on here, will again. Horse of my youth was a greedy pig. Nicked a hard boiled egg off someone and a ham sarnie off someone else. Bloke at show fed him pints of beer. All wrong and not on my watch. He lived to 30 in the days when horses didn't live past 20 ish.

Ive never intentionally fed taz meat, however at our last yard there was a shelf outside his stable that I used to leave my lunch on, and i thought he wouldnt touch it having 2 full hay nets while in the stable only to go get his tack and come back to find he had managed to get my chicken tikka roll out of the bag and had eaten it, no ill effects, definately isnt something I will do again, however he does enjoy the contents of mums lunch hampers out competing as there is always a mountain of fresh food

Some people used to feed their horses several eggs a day. Some horses used to have a regular stout. I used to have to keep a very close eye on my sausage in a roll when plaiting up in the back of the lorry. None died animal product related deaths as far as I'm aware.

Can someone please tell Willow that she is vegetarian, so her ongoing, but decreasing attempts to eat me are in fact counter productive to her ongoing health and well being, in more ways than one.

What does 5:15 pm have to do with whether you have been drinking or not?

Bucks Fizz at breaky, wine with lunch, sherry at afternoon tea, more wine at dinner, and port afterwards, then cocktails all evening, isn't that what the holiday season is all about?

My current horses are all deprived and don't get offered things to eat, apart from their normal fare, even apples get this treatment

But bacon sandwiches and ham sandwiches have always gone down well.

Oh dear OP, I would take the advice of a few other posters - lighten up love. Absolutely nobody on here to my knowledge goes out and knowingly feeds their horse a pork chop with their hayneet each day for goodness sakes. We all know horses are herbivores! I dont feed mine meat but he is the greediest thing imaginable, and will mug me for any food that is going. He has snaffled my sandwhiches many a time at shows, which have included meat fillings like chicken - proper chicken cooked by me, roast beef and ham to name a few things. He is nearly 20, is still extremely healthy and his only bouts of colic have been caused by being a greedy git and consuming too much grass far too fast. Both of which episodes needed the vet who confirmed it was GRASS that made him have colic, definitely not my meat sandwhiches, and I have never invited him to Sunday lunch either!

As for Hilary Devey - I think a pretty off the cuff comment to be fair, made in jest. She is an extremely clever woman who has made it big in a mans world. Also, do you think any horse she owned would be any less than extremely well cared for? As said before, chill out my dear, none of us do it knowlingly, of that I am fairly sure.

My horse always wants to eat my hob nobs but give him his own and he just spits them out the little ******. A friends horse always used to like sharing her spaghetti bolognaise (she worked on the yard, microwave meal for lunch she didn't cook up a batch especially!!) or pot noodles, infact he would eat pretty much anything and he's still going strong, he was oarticulary partial to tescos finest curry!

This thread has made me laugh out loud, excellent ! I especially like the bucket of carefully picked out health food left in disgust :)

That is my Ace, wont have any messing with her food, doesn't do treats, she is a mare of very simple tastes.

AND

How can anyone look at a bowl of carefully cleaned apple matchsticks, that had been mixed in with soaked beet, and oats, and not wonder how soft and sensitive a mouth really is.

I'm feeling a bit queasy about the thought of feeding my mare sausage or bacon, but then again I'm a vegetarian and I really really don't like meat, so that's probably why!

are you for real.... horses have the digestive system of a herbivore......
i don't and especiallywouldn't give my horse a sausage sandwich everyday day.... if that makes me stupid then so be it

Sausage will do as much harm as cod liver oil....none!

All that happens is the food is not broken down properly or digested as the body does not have the correct enzymes to break animal proteins and fats down.

If my horse like a sasuage sarni, he would probs get one!
