^^^^ Ditto this!! Also an essential item I have found is a reflective collar and/or with lights on it for spotting them in the dark! Total gamechanger.
 
I found having a play pen was really really useful, with a length of waterproof tablecloth underneath (I got it cut from the roll at a local everything store).

Also, super situational, but due to the way our garden is set up you have to go down a couple flights of stairs and across the patio to reach the grass, not ideal when puppy needs to go NOW.
I got some fake grass and had that outside the back door for toilet training and it worked amazingly for when she didn't have the bladder time for me to scoop her up and hustle down to the real grass. It was also more sheltered, so I was able to keep pup dry in the rain so she didn't get put off and would get on with the task at hand (Winter puppy!). As she got more bladder control, I took her down to the real grass more and more, until she was almost exclusively being taken down to it. When she was old/big enough to go down the stairs on her own, I just removed the fake grass and she happily went down to find the real grass.

I swapped the mats over every other day, chucking the soiled one in the washing machine. I did use puppy pads underneath when the weather was dry, but no use then it was raining, so I opted to just wash down the concrete with hot water and the included Pong Buster.

Speaking of which, the Pong Buster is fantastic! Definitely a doggy essential in this house! :D
 
I think everything has been covered and apart from needing sense of humour if a puppy is in the house ?. I bought a sheep stuffed toy with a heartbeat which seemed to help my lurcher pup to settle . He used to sleep with his head on its tummy. It was really useful but now he is 8 months I have had to confiscate it as he keeps eating the stuffing..!!
 
I found puppy kongs and lick mats really useful when Cecil was small. I’d pop him in his crate with one and by the time he’d finished it he was asleep so no crying.
He also had, well I already had it but he used a snuggle safe heat pad. Maybe a bit safer than a hot water bottle as it’s not chewable.
Exciting times! Do you have a photo?

Good idea re the heat pad, will have a look into that Thankyou ?

No decent photos yet, they’re only 10 days old at the moment. I will update with plenty when I have them. I do have lots of GLP puppy pics of our current girl though-

I know, it’s hilarious! She was such a little chunk but when the legs started growing, they didn’t stop ?

Nothing to add to the list, we live in puppy perpetuity here so at most have to buy food. Joys of running on other people's pups. I think it's nearly 5 years since we haven't had at least one under a year here. Currently have three :oops:

Yes, thankfully all worked out this time around ? they’re only 12 days old at the moment, litter of 8 all doing well.

She went to a dog over in Holland, it’s his first litter. I don’t actually know his registered name but he has done well both showing and working. He’s in a pet working home and temperament is lovely apparently so fingers crossed!

You’re well set up for youngsters then ? our last pup was 3.5 years ago, and the one before was 7 years before that! Always a shock to the system after a break but I can’t wait!

I’ll certainly update, I’m looking forward to seeing how you get on with yours too!

Thankyou so much, there are only around 200 GLP’s in the country so not many people are aware of their existence!

Ivy has been an absolute delight, she’s so trainable and eager to please. She’s also the sweetest, most empathetic dog I’ve had with the massive bonus of being a wonderful versatile working gundog ?

She's crossed with a Springer (we're pretty sure). Absolutely unhinged choice for a first dog (you can see how out of our depth we were in the thread I have going about her) but she's a great girl!

Oh she’s gorgeous! I’ve just had a look through your post. She sounds like a real clever bean ?

Pointers are amazing dogs, they are so clever and because of that- the ones I’ve met- definitely seem more settled when they have some sort of job- you could take Ivy for a 10mile run and she’d still be raring to go, a 30 min training session has her snoozing for the rest of the day!
