Posted the other evening about being concerned about my first jumping lesson with the little monster today.

Basically, he reacted in the same way as when I first started his flatwork lessons - un-co-operative as it is new to him and he doesn't see why he should bother quite frankly

! He was being a bit tricky at the start - little bucks / naps on corners etc. These were okay (well - as okay as they can be!) as he used to do it in his flatwork lessons & I know how to cope with them.

Then he started to get really hacked off as they weren't working. Don't know quite what he did, but he landed & did something most odd - like a buck but not much height (but a hell of a lot of force I am reliably told by my instructor!). I departed to the right & thudded down onto my right side / back. Veeeery painful! Couldn't get up for a few minutes. Then when I did I was seeing spots. Apparently I went white & instructor said she thought I was going to pass out.

Eventually - after a biscuit (for my sugar levels apparently - it did work!) and a glass of water I got back up. He was still a pig - refusing this time & the pain I was in was not helping me to get after him - but eventually he did as required - it wasn't pretty but at least ended on a good note.

I went through this with him when he first started dressage. Just hoping that eventually (like the dressage) he will decide to co-operate. Have also realised I am way too soft with him & need to work on my assertiveness!

I am not going to give up - but can barely move tonight. I don't remember ever experiencing pain like this! Someone watching commented that his attitude stinks (which it did!). Time for the boy to wake up methinks! Question is - how bad is the pain going to be tomorrow if it's like this now?

However, my pain was suddenly put in perspective when I read about the horse that died at badminton today -so sad

Nat, he isn't hurting in his back is he - as in something deep down? Or is he just a nappy little git

Take some ibuprofen, arnica if you have it, and take it easy - hugs xxx

Thanks Louise! I am going to get his saddle checked again as he has muscled up a bit over the last year.

I think it's nappy git though

Instructor basically gave me same synopsis of his personality as my other instructor when she first met him. Because he is so green to it (only hurdled before) he doesn't find it easy so prefers to not bother! He was exactly like this when I started teaching him to work in an outline.

I think you should come down (as offered before!) and sort the little git out! Thanks for the hugs!! Going to have a glass of wine too! xxx

Yes I must sort out coming down, might bring my BP too tho

I would have his back done by a chiro (McTimoney recommended by me) JUST in case he has something niggly - which of course could lead to him playing up when being asked to do anything that involves using the muscles in a different way. I do hope you get to the bottom of it xxx (Enjoy the wine!!)

Good idea. Have been told to get one myself!

Chiro a great idea - you are, as always, a wealth of knowledge & advice! Trade off - ride the pig & you get to see Chico! Kind of blackmail situation

!

Will get to the bottom of it - not going to give up now! Thanks again xxx.

Sorry if I'm interrupting...

Natalie_H don't forget to get your own back checked if the pain hasn't gone soon - we riders are always stressing about our horses' backs and forget about our own!

It's so easy to injure your back and the quicker you get it looked at the better.

Absolutely agree with that - my McTimoney person does my horse too, she likes to do horse and rider because if one of you are *out* then it makes the other *out* and a vicious circle ensues!

Will do! Thanks both of you!

Definitely right about most of us stressing about horses & not worrying about ourselves Bex! Instructor even said today that when he decided to smash through one of the jumps, I was apologising as if it was all my fault, but that it was him who was too lazy to bother picking up his feet. Although he was all contented snoozing in the field this evening whilst I was struggling for 10 minutes to get in the car

- struggled to get the jods off, but have just managed to shower & pour myself a glass of wine!

Will look up McTimoney. That's brilliant about doing horse & rider.

See you tomorrow about midday Louise?!

Thanks for the gentle hugs! Will see how it feels tomorrow but guessing not good! The right of my backside is now numb & I have what appears to be a large swelling on the right of my back at the bottom - although it might just be fat! LOL!

I can sympathise with you - i fell off yesterday too and ache this morning! I got dumped in front of a fence landing half on it, whacked my chin and bum which is now bruising nicely! Really felt the benefit of my body protector though.

The photographer at the show helpfully came over while i was getting my breath back to tell me he'd got a great photo of it, so i can't wait til that goes on the website later this week!!
