Posted the other evening about being concerned about my first jumping lesson with the little monster today.
Basically, he reacted in the same way as when I first started his flatwork lessons - un-co-operative as it is new to him and he doesn't see why he should bother quite frankly
! He was being a bit tricky at the start - little bucks / naps on corners etc. These were okay (well - as okay as they can be!) as he used to do it in his flatwork lessons & I know how to cope with them.
Then he started to get really hacked off as they weren't working. Don't know quite what he did, but he landed & did something most odd - like a buck but not much height (but a hell of a lot of force I am reliably told by my instructor!). I departed to the right & thudded down onto my right side / back. Veeeery painful! Couldn't get up for a few minutes. Then when I did I was seeing spots. Apparently I went white & instructor said she thought I was going to pass out.
Eventually - after a biscuit (for my sugar levels apparently - it did work!) and a glass of water I got back up. He was still a pig - refusing this time & the pain I was in was not helping me to get after him - but eventually he did as required - it wasn't pretty but at least ended on a good note.
I went through this with him when he first started dressage. Just hoping that eventually (like the dressage) he will decide to co-operate. Have also realised I am way too soft with him & need to work on my assertiveness!
I am not going to give up - but can barely move tonight. I don't remember ever experiencing pain like this! Someone watching commented that his attitude stinks (which it did!). Time for the boy to wake up methinks! Question is - how bad is the pain going to be tomorrow if it's like this now?
However, my pain was suddenly put in perspective when I read about the horse that died at badminton today -so sad
