Hello all!!

I'm a bit of a craft geek as well as a horsey nut - I'm just curious to know if people have hobbies other than their horses!!

Do you feel that there's a place for hobbies in your life alongside horses? I don't have my own horse, or a loan horse yet so I'm unsure whether I'll have time for anything else other than work and horses!

Homemade cookies for all x x x

Nope! Well, we have two businesses to run, so they're never far from our minds. Three dogs, sheep, poultry etc. Always a bit of DIY to be done either at home or the field, oh, and I've planted up the greenhouse this year with tomatoes, cucumber etc, but that is a rather half hearted attempt.

Out of choice, it would just be horses!

Well, I love my rugby and spend as much times as poss watching Leicester play :D am a littel OTT when it comes to shouting at the telly IMO :o I dont play it but i would love to, just dont have time with horses etc...
Other than that I play badders as a bit of a knock about.
Oh, and how can I forget Football, the sport that does my head in but I Love

I do Taekwon-do, so does my daughter but we do find it hard time wise with 3 ponies also.
She also does trampolining, I dont know where she gets the energy for all 3 :) x

I have loads of other hobbies that I enjoy (dressmaking and other needlework, painting, cooking, gardening, singing etc etc) but NO time to do any of them! :D

I guess I just fill my time with other things due to the lack of horse at the moment!!

I suspect everything will fall to the wayside and seem insignificant if I can get my hands on a gorgeous hairy beastie!!

I reckon that dogs sheep poultry and planting up the greenhouse count as other hobbies!! Would love to have more animals and do some gardening!!

I have and use, a spinning wheel, I knit and dye the wool I shear from our sheep. I sew and sometimes do a biI of embroidery. I have just made a coloured brow band, complete with (discreet) rosettes, for a show :D The inside hobbies are there for when it is too dark, or the weather is too foul for riding or mending fences, stables etc. :D

Photography, and I really like birds.

Not the sit in a hide sort of watching, more the fill several feeders with seeds that cost more than horse food, suspend them from trees 6' from the desk and bribe them to come to me, my trees are like an avian drop in centre! Tonight I saw FOUR varieties of woodpecker on the same tree and the waxwings are back. I can have coffee, browse on here or wherever, watch my birds and take photos more or less at the same time.

Photography can be done anytime and is responsible for a great many chores taking a very long time, or not being done at all. I'll quite happily chase a butterfly across a field, or lie on the lawn lens to eye with a praying mantis.

Cycling, walking, cooking and reading. My OH isn't interested in horses so I wouldn't see much of him if that was the only thing I did. We try to take our bikes out most weekends, or failing that a nice walk. I love skiing, but only get the chance to go once a year so not sure that counts as a hobby, but it is great to have a break from horse care during the winter.

We go lindyhopping. It helps keep us fit, and I find that the same faults creep into my dancing as do into my riding. Time commitment wise, we can drop in and out of our Friday night club as and when (learnt fairly early on that going dancing the night before an early horsey start on Saturdays wasn't a good idea.....), and we go to the odd dance camp too. I've always wanted to know how to dance, and although I still come under the heading of 'enthusiastic incompetent' rather than actually being any good at it, it is darned good fun :)

I am a right hobby geek! I love my horse so much but she is not my favourite hobby - i just see her as part of the family and not so much as a hobby - its not even that I love horses anymore - I just love her - the whole family do!

But my biggest hobby is showing my chickens and eggs. I am in my second year and we are doing really well, racking up wins and placings at some big shows. I breed silkie, dutch and dutch booted bantams. I love it - going to a show with your exhibits in a cat box (not a massive 7.5 horse box LOL) great day out and normally break even from prize money! Although its the love of the chickens really not the competing.

I love cooking and baking - and realy love photography and one day when mortgage is paid off and etc.... I would love to purchase a really swanky camera to get snapping! :-)

Mountain biking, cycling, snow boarding, walking, cooking, gardening, tapestry, puzzles, reading - I don't have much time for any of them, especially with a 4mth old baby, but fit a little bit of everything in every now and then! :D

Gardening (particularly love my veggie patch :) ),
Drawing/painting (I'm not very talented at all but find it relaxing, I go into a sort of trance). I'm joining a local art group for fun
But to be honest with 2 businesses and the horse I really don't get a lot of time. I'd love to have a go at all sorts of other hobbies if I could find the time

Like some others on here, I have more businesses than you could shake a stick at, so they take up time, but a couple of them are hobbies turned into business and I enjoy them :D

Four horses at two different yards take up time, but we've just about got it sussed :D

Drawing, puzzles, Mah Jong, reading, pen pals (now mainly email pals, though I will occasionally put pen to paper :D), arty things, walks with or without the dogs; and now D2 is getting more into history and enjoys country houses, so we'll be visiting a few of those :D

Kuk Sool Won, a korean martial art. Took it up a year ago so that when I backed my youngster this year, my balance would be better and I would be able to fall without hurting myself, lol! But I'm hooked, I love training, and I'm competing in the European Tournament on Sat, nervous much!!

I modify cars - really into Motorsport. Especially track days and Japanese cars. Horses are taking priority this year though... Have missed alot of shows/ meets/ cruises etc for horse competitions!

Apart from having my horse and a 10month old baby, I like art, I sketch, also design tattoos and occassionaly do the odd tattoo, I'm also training in hairdressing. I also read a lot of both fiction and non-fiction. And also have a high interest in music and learning the drums. I like to keep busy.

I'm a community first responder in my spare time and the treasurer too:rolleyes:

Along with work and my horse there just isn't enough time as it is

I do like reading, as late its all been horsey/medical or charity finance related though

I'm stuck in a leg cast right now so a bit bored to say the least:(

Oh until fairly recently was a cub scout leader too, but the camps killed me off lol
