hi all, i am sick of buying fly spray and it cost so much, i go through so much. so thinking why not make some, have you any homemade remedys that is quick and easy to make that really work. thanks in advance
Avons SSS is brill, get it from ebay - you can get 3 x bottles for under £8, far cheaper than going to avon direct
Works well on everyday flies but not so well on horseflies, TBH i don't know anything that works for horse flies![]()
only thing that repels every type of insect that annoys my horse is leovet powerphaser. bout 12 pound a bottle but is very strong so you dont need to use much and lasts a while
We have just started using this and must agree it is very good . Lasts up to 7 hours I believe. Mind you it does smell very strong so I'm not surprised it keeps the flies away. Even the assistant in the local saddlery commented when we bought it. Good product though.
my recipe
To make 2 litres (in an empty pop bottle)
1 litre cold stewed tea
1 litres water
10 drops citronella oil
10 drops neem oil
5 drops lavender oil
5 drops tea-tree oil
50ml Avon SSS
Splash of vinegar
Citronella repels flies and insects, Neem protects against lice and mites, Lavender soothes and heals (if bitten), Tea-tree is an antiseptic to prevent infecton (if bitten), vinegar adds acidity that insects dislike, Avon SSS provides benzylbenzoate a strong insect repellent.
This mix smells EXACTLY the same as Carr, Day and Martins FlyGuard spray.
