Home needed for two TB geldings!

Havent posted on this thread but have read it all. I really hope this works out for you GG but most of all for the horses and their owner, really said story and well done for caring enough to help. Good luck and keep us all updated x

Brilliant news!!! What a lovely happy ending :)

Thank you :-)

Fingers and toes crossed , would they be near enough for him to see them sometimes that would be perfect.

They are yes. They a very small organisation and so I have offered to help twice a week to see if we can get them into work over the next year or two. Take it nice and slow and steady and that way, they will have the comfort of familiarity seeing me on a regular basis and also, the owner could manage a visit once in a while as I know he will miss them like crazy.

We will help them out however we can as they are helping us in a way I was beginning to lose hope in finding :-)

Excellent news GG, I do think you've been very fortunate in finding a charity with space, so perhaps it was meant to be. :)

It will be good for him to be able to visit too and you can keep an eye to make sure they are being well looked after.

Thankyou for being so gracious GG.

Do check out the charity thoroughly before they take the horses, and ensure that any re-homing policy is professional and watertight.

Sounds like a potentialy wonderfull solution.

I have been given the details of thier vet, farrier and dentist and the two local raceyards that have sent horses to them. I also have details of a local riding instructor and trainer that works with them from time to time.

When I asked, I said I would like the details to take up references from professionals that they had worked with for at least 5 years. The details were given to me on the spot, so that gives me a very good gut feeling about their honesty and willingness to share information.

Now I just need to get them used to the lorry again, phantom loading and feeding them in there bit by bit so that over the coming weeks, we can lessen the anxiety of being in the lorry. It isn't road worthy as no tax or MOT, but it does move back and fore so we can get them settled with that as well a bit at a time. They are pretty good where food is concerned, so some positive reward based desensitisation to the lorry should work a treat.

It is worth mentioning in light of the level of sympathy for the owner that, despite fighting back the tears this evening, almost rendering me a blubbering mess, he is absolutely thrilled that they will have a safe future and the relief was palpable. I actually think he grew an inch in front of my eyes as the stress of the situation lightened a little.

A few people have commented on how nice it is that the YO and I are helping and I have had a few messages about how nice and unusual that is over the past couple of days. Someone also asked me why I bother...this is why...

When I was about 8 or 9, I remember asking my nan why she was so happy. She had lost her husband in her twenties, leaving her with four children and no income, she had a life littered with illness and hardship, yet she was the happiest person I know. She said,

"Cheryl, it is almost impossible to be happy and selfish. A selfish person relies on the compliments of others and constant reassurance to achieve happiness. A selfless person has happiness guaranteed through the very nature of their generosity and kindness. Never think of what others can do for you, think of what you can do for them and the rest will just fall into place".

She was absolutely right. At any time in my life when I have been self absorbed, I have also been miserable. It costs nothing to lend a helping hand every now and then, so it would be pretty poor of me and the YO not to in this situation.

Thank you all again for the words of encouragement. Happy endings are the best :-)

^^^^ brilliant idea, I'd be happy to donate.

I will get the details when the horses are moved there for you, What a wonderful idea and show of generosity!!!

It is something even my partner said he would support us doing last night and for him, that really is something...normally anything that takes from spending money on the bikes is a big no no...lol :-)

Brilliant news - lump in my throat now! :)

I cried when they said yes. I will get a picture of the boys tomorrow so you can all see how lovely they are. We will all miss them to be honest, but it is the best thing all round and yep...when the owner started, I really struggled to hold it together in front of him.

Well done you,you should be very proud of yourself.Soo pleased the old guy is pleased too ,im sure you have just taken a huge weight off his shoulders! I too would be happy to donate to the charity.good luck with it all & keep us updated.x

Bright wasn't she your Gran .
This is a good solution for the TB's
Will their owner still come up to your yard ?
Does he have family watching over him he will be lost at first when they go.
This how most welfare issues get dealt with by the community well done GG .

She was :-)

Their owner will still keep his big old warmblood gelding at the yard. I think without him to come and care for twice a day, he would have nothing to live for and I would never want him to let that horse go. That is his lifelong horse and the best thing about this is, he will have more time to spend with him now :-)

I have also just had a call from the sanctuary in question as they had a meeting about this tonight. They have basically said that they actually don't care if the horses can never be ridden...they will have a lifelong home with them, regular in hand walks through the woods and plenty of fuss and attention everyday. They will have their own rugs and have regular visits from the farrier, see a dentist once a year and so on.

I cannot express how relieved I am. They are going to have such a lovely life and I think the day to day life of their owner will be better too. When you get to that age, you should not have such serious stresses and strains so I am looking forward to seeing him carry less burden and have a chance to enjoy his golden years, not struggle through them :-)

What's the name of the charity, GG?

PHAASE and are based in Warminster. They are currently running as a not-for-profit, but are going for charitable status. They have been around a while and I have heard only wonderful reports from the phone calls I have made this evening.

I will certainly be making a contribution and will do so whenever I can. It has always been my dream to run a sanctuary for all animals, so whilst I cannot, I am glad this situation has reminded me that I can still find a way to help those that are doing it :-)

They are coming to meet Brian, Buster and their owner tomorrow afternoon just to make acquaintances :-)

Well done you GG for finding these horses a home together as the owner wished. I know we have a lot of different horse charities out there, but could maybe do with one like this: http://www.cinnamon.org.uk/ The Cinnamon Trust. One of my friends on here has had 'fostered' a couple of cats whilst their owner was sick in hospital.

Taking horses on, in the same arrangement as dogs and cats it a different kettle of fish I know - purely due to the expense of it all.

When I win the EuroMillions jackpot I'll set something up and pay for it!!

In the meantime, we rely on charities and individuals to help out. One of my friends has managed to find a charitable home for a mini shetland stallion on the basis that she takes it to their vet for its castration (the charity will pay the vets) and when the pony has had a chance to get over its gelding it will be going to the charity. In the meantime, my friend is looking after the pony as its owners are abroad and really don't want the pony or care about it.

I have just visited the website where hopefuly the boys are going & it looks great, im in wiltshire & have never heard of it but it sounds perfect.
I just have to say i did not believe in a million years you were going to get these two rehomed safely. To get one horse this time of year rehomed is amazing but two!!!.... Im sure the enormity of what you have done has not sunk in yet but just to say a bloody massive well done to you & so pleased for the horses & the owner....reckon he owes you a nice bottle of vino!!.xxx

I will get some photos in the morning when it is dry and hopefully I won't ruin my phone in the rain, lol.

Three ladies from Phaase came out to see the boys today and meet the owner and they fell in love with the boys straight away. The owner swallowed his pride and was very honest with them about his circumstances and they too were very honest with him about what the boys would be getting.

All very happy and the owner is really not looking forward to seeing them go, but he is very much looking forward to having more time to spend on his big old warmblood :-)

He will make a monthly contribution for the boys as long as he can and is very glad that he can go and see them whenever he likes.

Should be taking them in the next few weeks :-)

I am feeling a bit sad now. Well, a lot sad to tell the truth. I think it has just hit me that they will be going and I love them to bits too, but I don't think an opportunity like this will come again for these lovely boys, so I am very happy that the owner and the boys will be getting easier lives.

Thanks for all of the support :-)

that is good news, i can understand your sadness though, the boys are like part of the fixtures and fittings of the yard they've been there so long! it will be odd not seeing them in the field although i will be honest and say i won't miss them running at the hedge when i ride up the track lol;)

I love them to bits, but I know what you mean, lol.

Well, when I was schooling in the brief break in the rain this afternoon, Brian was stood right in the corner by the showjump store cribbing on the fence post. He wasn't there to start with...I did a few circles down the C end of the school and when I changed the rein and circled up the A end, Fly must have thought he was the boogey man, lol. Lots of snorting later she got on with her work lol.

I Have a friend who has page on fb called source a horse you could put them on there. She helps re home lot or ex racers to types. But she has no part in the sale just acts as middle person to help find homes. Pm if interested.

That's wonderful news GG. Well done for being so tenacious and big hearted. I have found the website of PHAASE so please let us know when the 2 B's go there and I will send a little something to help out.
