I vaguely remember someone years ago posting how they made their own equiami, plus pics. But I can't find the thread in search for some reason. Does anyone remember it?

If it was years ago - like maybe a decade ago - then I actually think it was me. I was trying to convert a pessoa into an equiami, and trying to understand the differences between the workings of the two. However the lady behind equiami got quite put out and showed up on the thread. I actually ended up just buying an equiami in the end! It's entirely possible that the thread got deleted as she was quite unimpressed by my efforts!

Hmm! Looks like that one, but no equiami lady. I seem to remember a few threads around then - maybe they were new out? so I may be getting mixed up!

Have you considered not using a gadget at all but doing postural in-hand work etc? I never recommend anything like the Equiami to my customers who need to rehab their horses.

The equiami is quite different to the usual tie 'em down gadgets like the Pessoa et al. It 'suggests' an outline, it doesn't enforce it, so if the horse wants to go round like a giraffe, it can. The contact is not fixed due to the ingenious sliding loop arrangement, so the horse can work things out for itself, it can be very helpful in some rehabs.

As to whether it is easy to mock up a diy one, I couldn't possibly comment ;), but I genuinely haven't tried to myself, though, I bought mine new :).

I do the inhand work too and a lot of raised pole work, but I did training at one of the top rehab facilities here and they recommend a mix of inland walk pole work and then an equiami for lunge work, especially when starting any trot work. they don't advocate Pessoa or side reins, it's purely the equiami they use.

yeah that must be the thread I was thinking of, I was wondering where it went, cos it was a great thread!

I'll agree it's definitely a bit better than the Pessoa but the trainers I admire don't use anything at all.

yeah totally agree the pessoa has a weird action. I agree with your point about good trainers using nothing, but training vs rehab is a different process with different limitations.

I don’t like these type of things but an equiami is much better than Pessoa .
tbh if I use anything it’s the equicore with out the hind band on .

The trainers I'm talking about are rehab specialists (Dan Wain, Klaus Schoneich amongst them).
