honest opinions on giving people lifts to and from the yard

Not really sure what ive done here, i havent used this site since 2013 and it seems it has come up with an old post i thought was new so commented on it, Sorry

If it's a one off or emergency fair enough and would always be happy to do that but once it's becoming more than that I wouldn't be doing it especially if it means going out of your way or having to wait for people. If it's got to the point where they are expecting it next time I'd just mention in passing that you won't be able to give them a lift over the next few days as you're tight on time/committed to a different route (either that or develop sudden urge to take all your rugs home so no room in car!)

Edit to add: oops yep should've checked how old thread was!

1) say goodbye and leave preferably when their in the middle of something
2) if you do give them a lift go your way and drop them off at X point don't change your route
3) If they do expect you to change your route charge fuel money
4) Hint that the buses are really cheap if you a get a mega rider ;)

Just leave when you are ready to leave. If you need to say goodbye then give a cheery goodbye, get in the car and drive off.

I've done it before and like you I didnt begrudge them a lift but if it was inconvenient for me I just didnt do it, simple :p

Well I've got worse over the years clearly ... Now i would just say no! lol ;)

When I had a horse on loan a girl on the yard always asked me for a lift. She worked on the yard and it started with I'm working so could you grab me a sandwich from the shop -she always paid me back. Then it was can we have a lift to the shop as you've finished on the yard, which I'd then have to take her back to it. I quickly learnt that any kind of favour from her was expected to be returned with a lift home. Which was 25mins there and 35 back.
I swiftly refused to let her help me in any way purely because I couldn't afford the extra petrol and the times she have me the money I'm sure it didn't even cover part of it.
