I bought my new horse 5 months ago and at first I thought 'what the hell have I done!' He wouldn't stand still to get on him, he was nappy, couldn't walk in a straight line, couldn't even get him out the field sometimes, developed into a mild headshaker etc etc.
Well after 5 months he is like a different horse and I'm beginning to fall in love with him! He has stopped all the negative things above, he comes over to me when I call him and when I turn him out he wants to come back in with me! Even the headshaking has been greatly reduced with NAF shake relief and a nose net.
I ride him 5 - 6 days a week and I feel we are finally building up a partnership and he's improving loads in our lessons.
I just wanted to tell people who have new horses and are still unsure of them that it's not always love at first sight and things can work out. I can't remember how many times I was writing an advert out in my head to sell him on, I'm so pleased I stuck with him and persevered. We still have a long way to go but I'm enjoying the process.
Good luck to all those out there with your new horses, I know it's not always easy.
