I have owned my 7 year old mare for just over 2 years. She is my first mare and not what I would have called 'mareish', in fact you would hardly have known she was in season. For various reasons i hadnt done much with her apart from some quiet hacking. We moved yards last September and i am now having her schooled and having lessons on her. Horses are out during day and in at night all year round with yard owners living on site. It was brought to my notice that on several occasions she had been double barrelling the dividing door between her stable and that of my daughter's gelding, her field mate and buddy. It appeared to coincide with her coming into season. Three weeks ago to this very day she was being lunged in the school, had a massive tantrum and managed to find the smallest gap by the gate and bolted off out of the yard and down the road. The following day whilst being schooled we had bucking, mini rears and bunny hopping whilst being ridden. Today I took her into the school in hand and she was bolshy, bargy and then started rearing and generally throwing her (considerable) weight around. It has been suggested putting her on regumate but 1) the cost is off putting although if that's what she needs so be it, and 2) I'm not sure if it's worth trying other alternatives first.
Can I hear people's experiences with both regumate and other supplements?
Not sure if it's relevant but she had a foal around the age of 2.
Sorry for the essay, any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. I am not the most confident of riders and really need to get on top of this before I totally lose my nerve!
