I had such a traumatic experience today, as a mother.

Hannah went to new instructor for a lesson. Nice sand school. Oliver was walking around when he just suddenly dropped to his knees/hocks to have a roll without any warning.

Hannah fell off to the side but got her reins looped somehow around her thumb. As Oliver tried to pick himself up he couldn't get away as she was still holding on the reins. He panicked and trampled on her repeatedly.

I can't tell you what an awful few seconds it was to witness helpless.

Poor Hannah was covered in instantly bruised hoof prints. Four on her back, one on her thigh, her foot and one on her left arm too.

She lay out flat in the school sobbing for a couple of minutes. Thought we'd need an ambulance for a while.

Such a brave kid...even though she was clearly in pain, she got back on and Oliver behaved impeccably for the rest of the lesson. Clearly that school was just too tempting.

oh my!
A nice long bath and some arnica for Hannah and a large whiskey for you - what an awful thing to have to sit through
x

Poor Hannah, she must have been very frightened. I am glad she's OK apart from the bruises though. She is a little star to get straight up and straight back on again.

Big gin and tonic for you, i think, Patches.

Oh no, how scary for you and Hannah. Glad she's ok. Kids are so much more resiliant than we think and it's good she was able to get on and finish the lesson.

A nice warm bath tonight and hopefully only a few aches and pains tomorrow though? Poor girl.

It's moments like that which make me wish I didn't dislike the taste of alcohol!

Strong, sweet coffee and a double decker sorted me out.

It was horrible and I dread to think how black her bruises will go in a couple of days when they were instantly purple.

Here's some pics taken after she got back up. The lead rope was a make shift neck strap in case he did it again.

Oh no! So pleased Hannah's ok... just watch for it building up in her mind over the next few days - I knew a little girl who had a fall, got straight back on, seemed fine, rode the day after but about a week later became a bit frightened when she'd had time to think about it.

She has one. Usually wears it but he's never done anything wrong before and she finds them so hot in the heat we have at the moment.

She'll be wearing it again in future.

Mum's evil old exmoor used to do this if he had enough of being ridden - only good thing was that he used to give you plenty of time to hop off.

Must have been horrible to watch and have done to her. Brave little girl to get back on.

Hopefully this was a one off rather than him turning into a Bonnie Boy.

Plenty of chocolate - for you both.

Oh so glad she is ok!! Those moments seem to take forever and you feel so helpless. I took out a girl I teach on a hack last week for a change and her pony spooked and ran for home then got her stuck in a holly bush...took so long to extract the pair but kids do bounce back as long as they dont dwell on what happened.

what a cute and adorable pony....i am sure he didnt mean to trample hannah...i hope her bruises arent too bad...put lots of arnica on tonite!

OMG you must of been terrified and blimey Hannah is one plucky kid

Thank goodness she is ok, she looks quite happy in the photos, I hope she feels ok tomorrow

Bloody hell. Poor girl, hope she is not to sore tomorrow, very brave for her to get back on. I'm sure she realises Oliver didn't mean it. I guess her thumb was ok afterwards?

Yeah, she never complained about her thumb funnily enough. Reckon the hooves on the rest of her helped her to forget about her thumb!

Those moments are dreadful.
CCj aged 10 was on a lesson with a well known local trainer who kept shouting enthusiastically as the pony approached each jump. Said pony hated anything scarey so when trainer waved her arms at him he bolted and swerved at the wall of the indoor school and off flew C smack into the wall. there was an audible gasp from the watching parents and she sort of slid down the wall into a crumpled heap.
She seemed ok and it was years later we found she had damaged her back at the time, now she rarely sleeps through a night and has chiro every so often.
I would get Hannah looked at next week when the soreness has gone by someone like a mcTimoney or a chiro. I wish I had, as it was we assumed because the pain went the next day there was no damage.
Those few seconds are sort of silent aren't they, you can't move or do anything but stay motionless in horror then you run..
My personal guide line is if they make a noise they're likely ok.. if they don't move then I move quickly...
Hope she isn't too sore, have you got any arnica for her?
