I have seen a lorry I like advertised but am not sure what measurements I should be looking for in the horse area.

The lorry is a 6.5 Ton and the horse area measures 1.93m long and 2.27 wide with 2.28m headroom.

What size horse do you think would comfortably fit in it? I have a 16.2hh so ideally need something to fit him and another in it!

Lorry is miles away so I can't tell by eye and it's my first lorry so nothing to compare it to! :o

head height isnt bad at just scraping 7.5foot high. Consider clearance when your horse goes into the stable door and what height the door frame top is at.
the length is a bit short - only 6 foot 3, if you think about the rug size your horse takes...(but dont panic, its not the rug size take off some for the curve round the bum and at the chest, so it might be ok but depends if its a 16,2 shire or a 16.2 TB....)
width probably ok for 2 at 7.45 foot total

how does the weight stack up for carrying 2 tho....and is there a lot of living in it as its weight cert will have been with no living in it at all, completely stripped.

Thanks Lach, I Should have said they travel sideways not forward facing :o :o

The living is small and quite basic as far as I can tell.

My horse is a TB (6'6" rug) but can be a bit of a worryer when travelling so I don't want him to feel squashed in. Chances are most of the time I'll just have one horse in it but would like the option to take two if I can.

Payload is just short of 2.3t.

ahhhh you tricked me there!!

Well it doesnt sound too bad then, really, as long as widthwise the horses arent really bloaters and 4 foot wide each :-))) Payload is not bad altho once you have whatever living plus people weight plus tack you might have to limit things like water carriers to what you need rather than enough for a drought ridden small country. I would weighbridge it if you do buy it and see what actual weight it has.

Assuming you yourself have a licence to drive over 3.5T then it might even be a lorry that can be uprated a little (although it might not be of course!) if you need it to carry both of them and lots of kit/water/passenger.

Certainly worth a look!

I on the other hand have just traded down from a very old 7.5t to a still quite old 3.5T so OH and I may have to go on a diet - thankfully we will only be carrying one nag!
