A thread for a little fun and to maybe pinch other people's ideas.

Here's mine:

1. Wood pellets - simply the best and most effective bedding for my dirty IDx. Mucking out is so quick & easy and no smelling of horsey pee.

2. Munch Station - no more filling of haynets, horse feeds from a more natural position, no hay all over the bed. Result.

3. Micronised Linseed - the lad looks fab on it with a wonderful glossy coat.

4. Sabre Bridles - I have a Cordoba for best and an Eton for every day use. So smart looking and if looked after will last for years.

4. Lemieux Saddle Cloths - really smart and wash well every time.

5. Neue Schule Bits - fantastic bits, my lad practically puts the bit in his mouth himself. He goes really well in them in a lovely soft outline.

6. Instructor - a great instructor that works well with you and your horse is worth every single penny paid.

7. Farrier - treat a good farrier well and you have a keeper.

8. Pikeur - last but not least, and need I say more, expensive yes, but fantastic fit and will last years.

Good idea ...

Aldi jods!! Only £12.99 and perfect for everyday use.
Bailey's Low Cal Balancer - keeps my very good doer slim and well nourished.
Rubber feed skips ... take being trampled on by a chunky highland and still bounce back into shape.
Greedy feeder hay nets.
Tri Tek 14 fly spray.
Megatek hair strengthener - also great for hooves and human finger nails.

I'm sure there are loads more "can't do without" things, but I run my lad on a pretty tight budget so try to make economies where I can. Sabre, Pikeur and Lemieux aren't on my shopping list generally ... (sadly ....!)

Tomato Ketchup for green patches and tails on greys.
Another vote for LeMieux saddle cloths
Hi Viz tabard WITH pocket for phone
Solo comb for manes
Wardrobes for at-yard storage (stops that mud-dust getting on everything!)
English Bridles tack - leather is so soft and the people there are sooo helpful with getting the sizes right

older grandkids for poo picking, add a 4x4 for towing, sit back with a cuppa and watch them go
white vinegar for stain removal
hay supplier dropping round bale in barn
3 horses, 1 of me, lead top dog, the rest follow like lambs, saves shoe leather and time

horsey washing machine - saves a fortune on washing rugs, numnahs and boots.

second getting a sewing machine - we do most of our own repairs.

Le Mieux and Nuumed numnahs wash well and last years (I still have a half wool Nuumed I used on my first horse and he died nearly ten years ago), and don't break the bank. think the le Mieux are around £35.

Love this thread!

1. Shires rugs. Fantastic quality, fit my cobby girl really well, don't leak and wash/reproof really well.

2. Those jumbo orange wash bags. Great for catching loose hair, mud and dirt instead of it clogging the washing machine. My mother-in-law actually lets me use her precious washing machine to wash everything from rugs to saddlecloths because of this now.

3. Hunter woodchips. Don't bother with any of that cheap rubbish when you have a mare as wet as mine - you really do get what you pay for.

4. Pink hi-viz. 100x more visible than they yellow variety. Allows me and my girl to be seen on the roads around us which can be very busy.

5. Stubbs Saddle Mate. Brilliant for keeping everything essential all in one place when you are travelling, I wouldn't be without mine!

6. Thorowgood saddles. I love the versatility and adjustability of my T8 and it suits my girl down to the ground as being a cob, fluctuates shape a considerable amount throughout the year.

There are undoubtedly loads more, I just don't have the time to write them all down!

Carabiners. Saves a few moments every morning hanging up the (made in bulk) haynet rather than hauling on the string.

Speedskip. Amazing for poo picking

Big Haemmerlin wheelbarrow. See above for poo picking.

lots of good ideas here, I third the sewing machine - it's very satisfying to fix your own things ;)

Agree with the speedskip, can't believe I ever poo picked using a shavings fork, what was I thinking?!

I joined the Magic Brush gang last year, they make great brushes at horsey bathtime and for scrubbing riding boots clean.

I will add: headtorch. Can't live without one this time of year.

^^ Oh yeah, I'd say softshell in general. The day I got my first softshell jacket was the day I stopped wearing fleeces forever. No more hair and hay stuck to me! Softshell breeches are the BEST in winter.

Some great discoveries on here! Off to google Speedskip......

Magic brushes and speed skip are on my must have list too.

A friend bought me a great hanging storage thing from Aldi, designed for cleaning products I think, but brilliant for brushes / horse boots / potions - hangs outside stable with lots of useful pockets

Jeffries- just love the quality and the price for leather that will literally last generations and still look new!

Amigo rugs- I don't currently keep any horses that need rugs (till my Anglo comes back off loan) but they are the only rugs I've found that actually fit well around the neck/chest

Automatic drinkers- speaks for itself

Headcollars that unclip at the throat- saves time when I can just unclip and pull it on over the head instead of faffing around with buckles

Baileys fibre plus nuggets for horse treats.

Small plastic cable ties to replace the rubber rings on field headcollar (so much faster than trying to thread through bailing twine and they will break easily).

Good thread!
1.Mint for fussy eaters
2. Lemieux sheepskin pads and girth cover (horse loves it, looks good, keeps very well)
3. Solo comb
4. Copra
5. Hoof boots
6. And, although it was a long time ago now - Iberian horses

Is softshell waterproof?

Yep. I did all millie's check lig rehab last winter and my lovely softshell breeches made even the dark rainy mornings bearable :)

I have one of those hanging jobbies in my lorry, it's brilliant

Does the tomato ketchup really work? I was thinking of trying it to see if I can get her tail vaguely white again.

Soft shell breeches make winter bearable - love love mine.

Would also add Ariat boots to the list. Worn with merino socks (icebreaker or smart wool) - look for them in outdoor shop sales - light cushion ski socks are really toasty in boots!

And the Ariat insulated tec gloves for winter hacking.

I like being warm :-)

Greys and coloureds get very very dirty, it's a full time job keeping them clean for shows etc, tomato ketchup cleans white bits, but it's the white vinegar in it that is effective, honestly owners of greys and coloureds do everything but suspend the horses from the rafters before a show, my little cob is wrapped like a xmas parcel and still gets a stain lol

Yeah I really wish my horse wasn't grey but would still say he is my best discovery to date.

Him and Kent and masters saddles they fit him perfectly and turned him around instantly. Went from fighting for a contact to him giving one without me asking practically he went rounder instantly.

I can't say I find magic brushes all that decent they do not clean him at all but his colour may be the issue there. They clearly work on other horses I have seen it but not him.

Heated water troughs ... and pet sized bowls too. (How can anyone manage without these in winter, even my RABBITS have mini heated bowls)

Rubber feed bowls (myriad of uses)

X-hoses (no more frozen rubber hoses, or rolling, draining, re-draining, re- rolling etc)

Yak-trax (extra grip for those sneaky patches of ice hiding under the snow)

Ski pants.

Sheepskin saddle covers.

Bit of a winter theme going on here ;)

I am now off to find out what the heck a speedskip is ...

aha! Basically a dustpan and short mini rake - they have those in the garden department at Home Depot ! Better than a pair of marigolds and a muck bucket then :D

Yup but it's amazing how this company have got what is essentially a poop scoop just right! The rake works better than the garden centre ones (well the UK ones I tried anyway) and the skip is bigger than the traditional ones!
I'm easily pleased!!!
