Hi, would appreciate opinions on this please...
Back in mid January, I noticed horse appeared lame on left hind. They were turned out in the school due to bad weather and as I turned around to close the gate behind her she took short steps behind. I brought her back, trotted up etc etc. She was fine in a straight line and on a large circle on the lunge, and was able to turn a tight circle to the right, but not to the left. As in, she wouldn't do it at all, asking for a tight circle to the left just caused her to step backwards instead.
I thought it looked like stifle so took video and sent to physio. She agreed and said to get vet to check first then she would come after that. By chance, farrier was due a couple of days later, before I was able to get the vet. Farrier found an abscess in the left hind hoof, dug it out and advised to poultice. He was convinced that was the source of the lameness so vet was cancelled.
Horse then sound, no short steps behind, fine in straight lines, circles, soft and hard ground.
However, she still cannot turn a tight circle to the left, nearly two months later. Farrier said a couple of weeks after that the foot would still be a bit sore, which is reasonable, but it now seems like quite some time and I expected her to be back to normal by now.
I'm concerned, but not really sure who to call. Get farrier back? Or vet? Or get physio to check it's not muscular? Could she still be sore on it, two months post abscess? She's a TB, with typically sensitive feet. Not shod behind. 6 years old.
She's happy in work, hacking out and schooling not a problem. No lameness, no heat or swelling anywhere, just still won't turn that tight circle ?
