I feel so callous for even thinking about this
frown.gif

I know I will get the best answer from the hunt knackerman, but I can't bear to ring him yet, so will see if you guys know.

Would Boo be able to go to the hounds? She has been pumped full of bute and steroids
frown.gif
, so not sure whether that means they would take her for the hounds or not? What would they do with her if the hounds didn't have her?

Also, any ideas re. cost?

Sorry if this has touched a nerve for some people, I really am.

Your not callous - if you are anything like me you like to know you have everything in place and know exactly what is happening.

As far as I am aware she wouldn't be able to go to the hounds because of the drugs she has had (but I stand to be corrected).

I think with loads of medication like that the only option you have is cremation - which from what I understand is a huge amount of money on the mainland (£90 here for collection and cremation).

Big hugs hun xxxx

The bute won't be a problem, but the steroids will. The hunt can still take him for you, it's just that your disposal costs will be higher.

((((((((((((((( Hugs )))))))))))))))

Sorry to be harsh, but if full of drug they can't use for hounds. But they can do a very good service. Defo phone them and ask.
If me i would defo use hunt service, as everytime i've seen it done, it's ways been done very calmy and with compasion.
Horse doesn't know anything at all, but please, please get done at home within horse's normal routine
At least £200 plus
and be warned have lots of tissues.........

so sorry for you ((((((((huge hug))))))))

I think they incinerate most horses at the hunt anyway...our local hunt always say that horsemeat is too rich for the hounds, so they only feed cow and sheep. So they would probably take her if you wanted them to....

oh i could never send a horse to the hounds cant your have her cremated or burried?

[/ QUOTE ]

I dont think this is the right time to start a debate over right vs wrong....many people feel a huge affinity to the hunt and would never dream of sending their horses anywhere else. I dont think Bounty needs people questioning her morals right now; she is thinking only of her horse, anyone can see that

A bit harsh and insensitive to put on this post. Everyone is entiltled to their personnal opinion but when it comes to matters like this prehaps it would be better to stick to answering the question..

what a stupid thing to say................

I am not a hundred percent sure but I would have thought that she would have to be cremated. I think that the vets can sort all this out for you cheaply if you didn't want to go through the whole ashes process.

Poor thing, I was very lucky when I lost my last one as my friend organised it all for me, I just had to be there to feed the carrots.

Thoughts are with you xxxx

I'm so sorry to hear that you are having to think about these things for Boo - think I've missed your other posts

I know the Cotswold Hunt will cremate horses that can't be used for hounds. I spoke to the Ledbury 8 years ago when I was in the same position you are in now with Sovereign (he had whipped in for the Ledbury so it seemed fitting that he ended his days that way). I don't know if it has changed since then but at the time they weren't able to cremate but they may be able to do so now. Otherwise there is that big animal crematorium at Elmstone Hardwick, just off the Tewkesbury Road as you go into Cheltenham. Hope this helps.

(((hugs)))

Well, she will be going at the hands of the hunt service, that much is definite. I made the mistake of opting for the injection last time I was in this position, and all I can say is NEVER again.

It's just what to do with her afterwards that I am struggling with. I could cope with the idea of her going to the hounds (always good to be useful!), but I'm not sure about her just being incinerated with no purpose.
Cybele is buried here, perhaps I should have Boo here too?
frown.gif

If i had land defo go for buried, but sorry if you have B taken away there's no other option but to cremate.
Unless you have have B drug free for a certain amount of time before, and this you need to check with vets and hunt staff

Bounty Speak to the huntsman or huntsman's wife, if Boo cant go to the hounds the hunt will cremate the body ( remember Boo's spirit will be gone). I dont know about costs but they do offer a wonderful service in the most difficult of times.

(((hugs)))

My mare went peacefully with the injection, and the vet organised collection, she was cremated because it was an injection. I dont know the cost I have not had the bill yet:(
Really, really sorry about Boo.

Firstly, there is NO need whatsoever to justify your decision, but for what it is worth I am with you 100% - mine would always go at the hands of the hunt, too. In terms of what happens afterwards...I think you need to decide what would suit YOU best - after all, Boo will be gone, so it is of no consequence to her. If you feel you would like to have her buried, and be able to go and stand by her and feel that she is still there, then go for that. On the other hand, if you feel that once she is gone, then she's gone, maybe letting the hunt deal with it all might be best. I've had both in the past - my ponies and our old hunter were taken to the kennels, whilst my beloved Mickey was buried on the Downs, as at the time I was too young to truly grasp it all and I didnt want him 'chopped up'
frown.gif
But now....I get a bit freaked out by the idea that he is still 'there', and as such, any other horse I ever lose will be cremated by the hunt.

Dont know whether that helps at all

Jeez what a sensitive soul you are.....
Im not actually sure how you thought your post could be helpful??

To the OP - if you have the option of burying Boo at home then i would seeing as the hunt wouldnt be able to use her as such.

Such an awful decision for you

I absolutely and totally agree with this. On both ocassions I have been dealt with wonderfully.

We're looking at perhaps a weeks time? So no time to withdraw the drugs, and the whole point of them was to try and make her a little more comfy for a while anyway.

We have our own land, but Cybele is down the bottom and it is so wet at the moment that getting a JCB down there would be awful
frown.gif
I can't see it drying out massively in the next few days, unless we have a monster frost and get the machine here while it's frozen.

I don't know what to do

Having worked for one of the largest pet crematoriums in the UK I would always make sure that If you are considering the cremation route, to go to a company who have an incinerator large enough to cremate the body whole.

I was horrified to discover a number of smaller companies who offer a cremation service cheaply, yet only have a 40kg incinerator...... really not a nice thought.

I know money can play a big part in disposal of your horse, but I dont think the smaller companies make it very clear that they are unable to cremate your horse whole. xxxx

Huge <<HUGS>> to you in what ever you decide to do, what a horrible decision for anyone to make.

xx

I think your being brave, i'm afraid to say i would probably bury my head in the sand!
Which ever decision you make will be the right one for you and your beloved horse! We'll all do a sundance for you encouraging the dry weather and dry out your field x x

Whatever you decide to do, my thoughts are with you I would always use the Hunts Services when the time comes, Sorry I cannot help with advice as I really do not know..
