For what its worth.Like the look of that little chap but my knowledge of conformation is pathetic.Ask my instructor who had to restrain herself from laughing at one of my choices. He might be bum high which is common in natives, particularly young ones.As for the rest Well! We have all said things in the heat of the moment that we may think better of latter. For whatever reason and no matter whose fault the poster and her horse aren't getting on.Therefore the best thing for both is for them to be parted.Nothing wrong with selling a horse you don't get on with. She is sending her for reschooling prior to sale and is acting in a responsible manner IMHO.Finally, I have a welsh section D who is a total poppet.Just the luck of the draw I guess.

Well done for making the right decision to sell on. There are so many badly handed youngsters out there that could do with being sold on to a different owner to put them right before the damage is permanent. There is no shame in admitting to being overhorsed.

I dont know the correct terms so call this reply idiotic by all means, but in the picture Gavin looks like he isnt working from behind and almost dragging himself along at the front. He looks like the strength of the rider is pulling is head in - His head is very low and is behind the vertical by quite a lot. He looks very tense in that particular pic.

I 'think' you were the girl who posted re: horse that was stabled and getting extremely stressed about it? If so, you can see my response on that post

I don't see why you should not sell the horse you have. If you feel you cannot deal with the horse then IMO its not "passing the problem on" as horses respond differently to different people. He might be perfect for someone else! I sold my Welsh D earlier this year - he was bargy (although way better than he was when I got him!), I stressed this and was VERY particular about who I even let come and view him. I couldnt have been more honest about him and the person said they felt they could cope, I told her Id have him back if she couldnt - he was back after 1 week after apparently behaving horrifically with her (biting her, pinning her against a wall etc. - all of which he'd NEVER done to me!!). He then sold to a 14yr old girl and they've had no 'big' issues with him at all, and are getting on brilliantly! He was the type of horse who would destroy someone who lacked confidence, many D's are like this I think! What Im trying to say is that I dont see why its bad this girl wants to sell her 'problem' horse and get something else. Sometimes you just dont gel with a certain horse. The horse in the pic looks nice, if you like him then get him!

Well - I have no idea why that post turned out the way it did!

I like the look of the horse and I don't blame you to call it a day with your current horse and looking to get something more suitable. If the advert is accurate then he sounds great. You will soon find out if he's not as described when you go an try him out. You could always have him on trial or go and try him a few times before you buy to make sure he is suitable.

I would buy him but then I love section d's

Don't blame you for wanting to sell your current horse as the bargy behaviour has led to injuries and has clearly become too much for you to deal with.

The Welsh you've posted looks lovely but considering your recent bad experiences wouldn't something that's a little more established and older (and not Welsh
laugh.gif
as much as I love them they are usually very bargy and opinionated) be a safer bet for a few months so you can remind yourself how much fun horses are and something that you can go straight out and compete with rather than another youngster?

Seccy Ds are great fun and will try hard for you - they will also walk all over you if they can, (Frankie did with me yesterday

despite best intentions we all have moments!) and the breed can be generally 'not very straightforward'. Worth their weight in gold though for the moments which are bliss if you click

Good luck with horse hunting OP, FWIW I think the horse in previous thread sounded desperately unhappy, not taking the pee but worried/panicky - and that you have misread it as intentionally nasty behaviour. However I wasn't there/don't know you/ the horse etc.

You know what?
If more people had the common sense to sell a horse they cant cope with, there would be less messed up, confused horses out there!
I think for you to sell your horse is the right one......for both her and you, provided you are honest and up front with the potential purchaser.
Gavin.....really? Gavin? tis no wonder he is trying to hide his head behind his shoulder with a name like that......Gavin???
No No No simply wont do! Change it to something cool like Dave

20 mins left on 2009........I was responding based on my own experience of 'above themselves ponies/ horses' - and i was pleased to get your response re the racehorses......i.e my boys - who I have to say have a far better standard of living then we do....
Whilst I agreed with Shilistar a post or so ago - now he/she is being a little fascist I think!

Ah, now I can cite Godwin's Law (1990) which states:

Sorry can't be fagged to read all the hoohah. Has the mare been tried in american barn stabling?

I appreciate you are going to sell her but it may be a thought to make her happier in the future.

Regarding the Welsh Cob thing, he doesn't do it for me. But then I am biased because a 5 y/o welsh D almost ripped my arm off.

I don't like the disposition of any Welsh C or D I have met. There have been a few.

Poor poster, what a lot of stick you have had for simply deciding you want to sell a horse that doesnt suit you
confused.gif
Wow.

Good luck with the search for the new horse - Gavin looks a very attractive sort, but would want to see if he really is that heavy on the forehand when you ride him (not that it wouldnt be fixable, but...)

Ditto this, Remember he;s only young and none of us know how long he's been schooled for so he will probably come right

Good luck in horse hunting

Wow that took me ages to read all that lot and the other thread. I think HairyMolly has had alot of unecessary flak. I think the cob looks a nice sort, so he may be a bit heavy on the hands but if you have ridden him and think you can work on it then go for it. I dont know anyone whos bought a horse that was perfect from the off.

Come and meet Genie!!

I haven't read all of the stuff that apparently has gone on in previous pages. I think you are making a brave decision, and I like the look of the horse you've posted. Personally if I was looking to buy I'd call about him.

Thanks to everyone who has replied to this rather epic post. I like the wee horsey and I appreciate he is down hill. I have handled and brought on young horses before including welshDs. I will go and see him and if he is too much for me I will walk away. I am confident handling other horses I just struggle with mine. I think we are in a big viscious circle together which is not working so something needs to be done. Yip I know she is not nasty she has never bitten or kicked but I cant handle a horse who is willing to crush me against a wall because I stopped her from looking out the door. She didnt think Im going to kill my mummy she wanted her own way and I was in her way so she had a strop. She can be rather pigheaded. And it really did come from nowhere to those that dont belive me well you were not there. I have spent 18 months with horse and have spent most of this time standing up for her, making excuses for her, worrying about her, dashing uo to the yard to make sure she comes in/out at the correct time, reasearching on the internet on how to deal with her, posting on HHO for advice, spending money on lessons with professionals to help, for the last 18 months my whole life has revolved round about this horse. I have literally spent hours with her in the stable getting her to move back/over/forward then back/forward etc and making a fuss when she is good. I have also spent hours leading her about yard in hand stopping/moving back walking on then moving over etc. I have lunged longlined and did loads of ground work. I have tried every thing I can possibly think of and I did think we were making progress but last night made me realise that we hadnt made that much progress really. She knows her manners she just chooses not to remeber them. If she is unhappy I am sorry for that but I have really tried to make it work with her and to make her happy and settled. I am now at a loss and exhausted with the whole thing and have given up. I am goimg to sell her on to the most suitable home I can find and look for something more easy going and straightforward and if that makes me less of a horse person then so be it. You only live once and hobbies are meant to be fun.

I haven't read all the crap responses you've had to endure, but I wish you luck in finding a new horse, you have obviously tried your heart out with the one you've got!! maybe someone else will get on better with her.

As you say it's meant to be fun
smile.gif
and for what it's worth I adore welsh cobs, have had welsh/tb and been fantastic so I thoroughly recommend them.

He's lovely - just the sort of horse I'd love to buy!! If you get him you can't change his name - its great! You should change yours to Stacey lol!!

There are some weirdos on here! The OP is not palming the horse off to a dodgy dealer, or taking it to the sales - she is sending it to schooling/selling livery. What on Earth is wrong with that and why should she be attacked? Can only be because people are bored.

What I do not get, is how some idiot can post on here looking for sympathy as they are sending some messed up creature back to the dealer and slippery slope they "rescued" it from, and get that sympathy. Those are the ones whose eyes I want to scratch out but all they get is millions of "((((((hugs))))))" posts.

OP can't comment on the horse as I don't really go for Welshies, but if you like him, go and sit on him!
