Just out of interest really. I possibly have the lowest tolerance levels - ever, so i'm easily irriated. So, what are your horsey peeves?

Mine would be people tying straight onto metal bars/ gates / tie rings etc.

Over to you

Eurgh at some of the unaffiliated dressages we go to theres always this pair, and they leave this one really clicky mare tied to the horsebox when they take the other one away so she has a complete paddy and nearly always gets loose.

-sigh-

Loads of people do it. I cant remember if it was the Pony Club or BSJA that was going to make a rule to ban it, but they never did

Drivers not paying attention to you when you say for them to stop and be patient because your baby is just seeing its first traffic and is understandably nervous

people at shows not knowing the basic rules i.e. left to left and not using my pony's bum as a buffer!
small children in spurs who can't control their legs
horses that are completely spoilt and as a result are horridly pushy and nip
people how can't control their horses taking them out on the roads
(seesm to be the norm for pony jumpers) complete matching/blingy sets of headcollars, browbands, gloves, numnah, boots, jacket etc.
katie price-would people think she's really that good if she had tried SJ or eventing?!

Not being thanked on the roads by other riders. Easily top of my peeve list!

[/ QUOTE ]

Mine too - always feels like they are letting the side down. Even a smile would do, if someone slows down for you. We all need to keep drivers on side

I have lots
smirk.gif

- People towing trailers with top door above front ramp open (see post below)
- Haynets. Lethal bloody things, have seen one horse killed by getting tangled in one, hope to never see another
frown.gif

- People who are scared of their horses - why have one if you're terrified to handle it?
- People who dont discipline their horses correctly (eg. "oh darling Tilly, odgywodgy poppet, please dont try to kick me when I'm walking behind you') then moan when they walk all over them
- People who bring on youngsters far too fast, then wonder why they're burnt out by the time they're 8 yrs old
frown.gif

- Barbed wire fencing. Hate it
- Ignorant drivers
- Ignorant riders on the road who give us all a bad name
- People who think their way is the only way

I think I better stop now!

People warming up who seem to not be able to see the red ribbon on my horses tail and still put their horses up her arse! They can see her pulling faces and still don't seem to notice! And who gets the blame if their horses get kicked?!!!!

And generally spoilt children, my mum saw a brand new lorry the other day with 'sponsored by Daddy' on the side!!!

People lunging on 3m circles (paricularly young horses, on a deep surface, in trot, for half an hour
mad.gif
). I sometimes have to lunge my pony close to me or he takes the pee...I manage to walk a circle in the middle so he doesn't have to do stupid tiny circles.

Overweight horses/ponies and owners who don't do anything about it

ooh I hate this as well, at my old pony club one girl's horse went a bit 'off' so they sold it and bought her a better one! And her younger sister's pony is an ex FEI pony!

Someone at my old yard rode two ponies at pony club-one for jumping and one for dressage!
blush.gif
and she had a tshirt that said 'saw it wanted it threw a tantrum got it' and her dad bought her that top as he thought it was funny-didn't realise it was bloody true!

Smoking on horseback

People letting their horse bang the stable door/paw the ground

Idiot drivers/riders who are idiots on the road

People feeding my horse tit bits whilst saying something along the lines of 'there you are because your mam is so cruel, she never gives you treats'
mad.gif
I do give him them - one when he's caught and one when he goes back in the field/I leave him stabled for the night, plus he might get a couple AFTER we've finished our round at a show (that's the crucial bit). Really annoys me as T gets very pushy as soon as he gets treats; he's very food orientated so thinks he can get more and will not give up & gets nippy. I've done badly at shows because he's lost concentration due to people stuffing him full of treats (I didn't know they were doing it). I don't feed your horse, so don't feed mine!

I can't abide it (especially at a show) when someone (most often children but adults aswell) Just walks up to my horse (whether I am sat on her, holding her or not there) and:

A: gives her a handful of grass
B: starts stroking her
C: Pats her on the rump as they walk by.

...without asking my permission and if she is safe to approach!

Sometimes i think that I would love her to knock em over for being so rude, but if anything happened I would be mortified

People that have all the best stuff and dont take care off it (brand new stubben saddle currently being left upside down on a bale of hay!)

People that try and make their horse look naughty (jogging etc) so they look cool.

Adults that do not have a clue but buy their child a pony after 5 ridding lessons.

People winding their horses up when it comes to food, standing directly outside their stable calling them and shaking their bucket only giving it to them when they've banged, scraped and whinnyed. - the reason my horse walks back nicely and waits for me to put it down is because I dont tease her......bloody give it to them!!!!! GRRRR

People that set a budget and religiously stick to it - if you horse needs its shoes done - it needs its shoes done!

.....well thats my rant over lol!

people sticking up the jumps in a collecting ring to a ridiculous height, and not giving enough space to work in.
also other riders trotting past you on a road.

Biggest gripes have to be hoofpicks(HOW do they walk away? No really how-not like they are alive!),people who encorage bad behaviour in their horse or brag that it's sooo bad they are the only one that can ride it
crazy.gif
Breeding because you want a foal/mares out of work for a while so might as well/any reason other thn to produce a quality horse there will be a market for and advice-both people who give it when it's not asked for and people who ask but pay n attention(have no problem with someone decided the advice is not right for them and their horse, just the ones who dont think about it).

I agree! I know some folks, bought a first pony as a snaffle mouth, quiet as a lamb, but now it sports a flash, a martingale and either a pelham or a dutch gag. They are novice owners. I hate to see kids ponies strapped up like gimps.

AHA!
Thats another BIG one.
Now if your horse goes best in 101 gadgets and you can ride horses without them so they are not there to compensate for your shortfalls use whatever works.
But people who buy a horse to jump and have to have it in a grackle with a gag annoy me.
People who use items of tack when they dont know how to fit it or how it works also wind me up.......told you it was a long list

mad.gif
mad.gif

* Horses being left unattended tied to lorry/trailer at shows
frown.gif

* Jumps in warm up ring for SJing being ridiculously high for the class in progress
mad.gif

* Spoilt children that throw tantrums to get what they want
mad.gif

In no particular order...

Crowding/cutting up/ fence hogging in Bsja warmups.

Un-neccesary tack and especially bits (depends how they are being ridden). Oh and training aids like draw reins in the hands of a monkey.

Badly shod or overdue for shoeing (see this a lot at competitions)

People losing there temper with horses / bad sportsmanship.

Ignorant people/know it alls - found on most livery yards countrywide.

Breeding for the sake of it.

Snobbyness/ Rudeness - No place for that at all.

People with a really harsh bit, martingale, flash ect and then spurs and whip and then holding the horse/pony into the fence and wondering why it stops...then beating it and shouting at it for stopping!!! Stop confusing your poor horse!!!

Leaving horses tied to the lorry at shows and walking off

Hoof picks wandering off

Leaving horses tied on the yard then going off to watch someone in the arena

Completely agree with this! Also don't understand why some people don't wear reflective/luminous when hacking on roads, it's such a simple thing to do but yet so many people assume drivers can see their black/bay horse with rider dressed in dark colours against a dark grey road?!
