Idiot move by the owner and I can understand why the police are involved, but the RSPCA? During one of the worst welfare crisis this country has faced in recent history? Really?!
Hmm.
Hmm.
The RSPCA will just be jumping on it to get a bit of fame. I don't agree with what she did but there is no need for RSPCA to be involved. A fine from the police would be sufficient.

The horse looked well cared for the rider looked an idiot. The RSPCA don't need to get involved especially considering the area this happened in - theres a lot more there to keep them busy but that wouldn't get the publicity….
Sadly most genuine welfare cases won't generate nearly as much publicity as this, slightly daft incident.
Yes horse could have spooked but so could any horse hacking out at harvest time - we don't consider all of those welfare cases, and anyone hunting in this weather is likely to slip quite a bit - again welfare??
Saw this, thought I would share:

I know the video content has already been discussed in depth on another thread, I personally wouldn't ride into Tescos but I don't think it is the worst equine crime going.
The RSPCA are now involved to investigate whether there were any animal welfare issues.
Now I know the RSPCA are famed for spending their time and resources in all kinds of illogical ways and enjoy a political crusade once in a while - but surely out of the thousands of malnourished, abused and starved horses and other animals in this country who genuinely do need their welfare cases reviewing, this is not one. Irresponsible of the owner - but the cob I saw in the video looked very smart and well cared for, as far as cobs can doHe certainly didn't look like a welfare case.
Is there any possibility the RSPCA can come down to Brant river bank and take the poor tethered mare who looks absolutely emaciated and is a genuine welfare case but "has access to water", instead of pursuing this?
This is why i wouldnt give a penny to the rspca, absolutely ludicrous to spend money time effort and energy on this. The horse in Tescos was in fantastic nick, was it a silly thing to do ? probably, but imo riding on that surface was no more dangerous than riding out on a winter morning when you can find ice on the roads. The horse looks well cared for and was well controlled by the rider to turn this in to a welfare issue is bonkers...... The world has indeed gone mad !
Absolute idiot. Not surprised the police are involved. Could have done some serious damage if it went wrong. Who the hell walks a shod horse into a supermarket? He was slipping all over the place, the poor thing.
How is it jumping to conclusion or if theyre investigating does that mean the person does it for free ??
We all know youre a big supporter of them Moomin, good for you , personally o wouldnt see them in my road![]()
You do realise that quite simply the police may have ASKED for advice on the situation?! As simple as that?!
How is that possibly the fault of the RSPCA - are they meant to refuse to answer? And how much money and effort do you think it would be for an a phone call to take place? Hardly breaking the bank..
I have no idea the level of involvement, and am certainly not about to jump to the conclusion that a full blown investigation costing time and money has been instigated simply because a sentence in the press states 'the POLICE have been in TALKS with the RSPCA'....
Youre also jumping to the conclusion its just a phone call, either way its still costing money for the call and staff time ? But as others have said its riding on the coat tails for publicity, id have more respect if they were tending to, calling about or dealing with the other horse in the op, my opinion on them is the opposite to yours moomin i wont change it because you want me too
Yes this was a stupid thing to do but imo to say its been blown out of all proportion is an understatment. Anyone looking at the horse can see its well cared for, im going bow out of this now as im obviously in the minority with my opinion on both the incident and rspca involvement, i do take on board however that i misread the rspca were investigating the incident which imo would be a ludicrous waste of money, but will watch to see where this case goes both by the police and the rspca
Oh, I am in total agreement re the mountain out of a molehill, as I said in my first comment. It's all a bit ridiculous really isn't it!

Im sorry but the only person that needs the finger pointing at is the rider for an act of utter stupidity. thsnkful no member of public was hurt but by god this was a dangerous act and poss consequences does not bear thinking about. Police and RSPCA are probably following set procedures and good on them. I cannot believe that the rider thought it was good for a laugh and if she had been my daughter(but thankfully mine has more than an ounce of commonsense) she would have felt my hand on her ears. so no i dont question the police or rspca actions.I say well cheers luv for putting the equstrian world in public eye for the wrong reason. Nice one
thank Gawd Mr thoroughbred cob didnt dump all over Tesco's sweaky clean lino or the owner would probably be paying compensation for a whole team of specialist health and safety forensics cleaners in white suits to come and sterilise it. If it were me i'd be thanking my lucky stars just for that if i were her.
BIG mistake.
