ok, i have had my horses insured with E&L for over a year now and i keep getting told horror stories about them!! so yesterday i finally cancelled both insurances for my 2 boys, i rang NFU? they seem really good but very pricey compared to what ive been paying. i had Buddie insured as £1000 3rd party and bear £1800, pretty much the same allcovering vets fee's etc.... and it was about £20 a month for both, and the NFU quoted £56 a month for both and it was pretty much covering the same as E&L, i cant really afford that (our car insurance is less than that!!!) so if anybody knows of good insurance companies???? thanks xxx

Strange.
We had one of ours insured with E&L, with cover basically just for hacking which cost £53/month.
Swapped to NFU a few days ago and now have two insured with NFU with cover that includes polocrosse, intermediate eventing etc for £57/month for both.
Whoever you swap to at least you'll have the peace of mind that you are paying out money for a good reason. With E&L I get the impression that you are just chucking your money at them for the sake of it, as they'll do their best not to pay out. Over the year we had Rage insured with them the premium was getting higher and higher, and the list of things they wouldn't cover for was getting longer and longer!!

I would check the cover provided by each company as it sounds like NFU must be giving more cover.

I insure with NFU and find them very reasonable for the horses and 4x4.

i dont understand NFU as i only really do the basics and vets fees, neither of horses have had previous problems/vets etc... buddies a 10 yr old sec A happy hacker and maybe odd local show jobbie and bear 14.3 cobX is 4yr old and also happy hacker and bit of local showing and fun unaffiliated SJ and XC? bloody pain in the butt isn't it!!! should i just go back to E&L? quite a few people have said they dont pay out. and i dont want to carry on paying them for the next 5 years and then need the cover and they wont pay out!!!!
GGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

NFU are VERY good, I have a couple of mine insured with them, I pay £7 more per month for Wills on NFU than I did with E&L, but NFU were much easier to deal with. I'm not sure what I am allowed to write on here with regards to insurance but I did have a bastard of a time after Oshk's opp trying to get E&L to pay out- I am almost certain that if my dad wasn't in insurance law I would have not got any money back.

NFU are very good, but TBH I can't afford them for both my horses either. Am with AMTrust at the mo and they have been good so far (although I haven't had to claim). Always answer the phone though and helpful staff.

petplan have increased age limit for vets fees up until the horses 25th birthday but when i phoned for a quote it went from £9.09 per month to £25!! bit of a hike! i'm gonna keep searchin for a better quote than that as i dont ride the horse and they have excluded her back legs as she had an accident years before i got her and even though they dont affect her in any way they are refusing cover! not much use if she gets kicked in the back legs!! the lad on the phone even said if i had lied and said nothing about her legs then i would have had full cover!!!
