Our horse insurance premiums kept rising so when you have multiple horses you have to take this into consideration so we looked for a different company. We were with KBIS at the time & the premium was around £65-£70 per month. A friend had moved to ‘Horse Insurance’ & had made considerable claims & they’d paid out. I was sceptical as I think they were at one time called ‘Equine & Leisure’ who had a diabolical reputation some years ago. Anyway thought we’d give them a try & the premium was £19 per month so we paid very little & to be honest didn’t expect much.
About a month ago one of our horses had an issue with his lungs, vet examined him & decided he needed various medications & then he needed a nebuliser to administer these drugs deep into his lungs. I checked the price of the nebuliser & they were £779 on line (Gulp). Anyway our claim was submitted through our vets to the insurance company. There was a cock up at the vets & they sent the claim to the wrong insurance company, they sent it initially to KBIS. We had a reply from KBIS saying that we were not covered by them. They stated that they accepted that the nebuliser was the best way to administer the various drugs, they would have paid for the drugs but would not buy nor pay to rent a nebuliser. Remember this was KBIS? We spoke with’ Horse Insurance’ & they confirmed they will pay for the nebuliser & medication, they will continue to pay for medication for the next 365 days, however they will put an exclusion on his next renewal regarding his lungs which is what we expected anyway.
A lengthy post but I cannot voice my appreciation for the way the claim was dealt with & the treatment they paid for & all for £19 per month? We could have paid £60 per month more with KBIS & had to find £779 from our own pockets for the nebuliser.
Something for owners to consider?
