Hi all, I am looking to insure my gelding. Currently considering between KBIS or NFU - both seems to be equally good. Just wondering if some of you have had any experiences with them? good/bad , reviews welcome ! Thank you in advance!

Cannot fault KBIS paid out for my girl when she blew a tendon less than two weeks into a policy. No hassle has three horses insures with them and no issues and a pleasure to deal with over the phone.

Nfu brilliant for me, tend to be more expensive but that's understandable given cover and claims handling. Cheap usually is for a reason ie they don't pay out!

NFU has been outstanding on a variety of horses I have had, including a LOU payout.
Their premiums were going through the roof though so I switched to KBIS. KBIS have a variety of policies / cover levels, and although a bit cheaper than NFU I'm finding the premiums still going up every year. Also they seem very picky on exclusions.
My gut feeling is I prefer NFU, and if you can get comparable quotes I'd opt for them

Happy long time KBIS customer here, I've had 3 claims with one horse and they have been super easy to deal with, no hassle. That policy is now riddled with exclusions (horse has done 4 legs in various ways so understandable)... so that's cancelled but have insured the other horse instead :p

I went with KBIS after seeing how well they dealt with my friend's horse which also had multiple claims.

Agreed - KBIS were just amazing through my horse's various issues and eventual colic surgery. I don't begrudge paying the extra because you're paying for their amazing service and the fact that they actually pay out when you need them. Literally cheques sent out within a few days, replies from real people - they were the ones chasing my vets to get the claim dealt with quickly. I was so impressed with them.

I would not recommend NFU to anyone, they were rude and frankly a pain in the bum to deal with when my boy was put down last month. We got them to pay for the vet bills and then cancel the insurance as there was no need for it anymore. Only a few days ago they sent me a form to renew my policy on a dead horse even though we had claimed off them to deal with the vet bills.

if you're a BD member, mention it to them and you can get a discount, not sure if the same applies with the other affiliated bodies.

KBIS get my vote, paid out on a full claim with my vets receiving the cheque the day after KBIS received the invoices themselves. Takes the stress out of a stressful time. On all claims they have paid out quickly and are professional and friendly to deal with. My horse is now a veteran with too many exclusions for the policy to be worth anything so it has been cancelled but the next pony will be insured with KBIS for sure!

I find KBIS brilliant to work with- great customer service, friendly people who genuinely seem to be interested in horses (when I rang to say my horse had been put to sleep, the lady was so lovely and sent a little note through to me) and have always paid out no questions. I've had several very large claims.

This is why I stick with them for everything.

We have had two claims with KBIS in 18 months - yes, very accident prone!! One for £3k and the last for 400 odd.

I can't rate them highly enough. Paid out on both really quickly.

KBIS paid out on the mare's ulcer treatment without issue. The renewal notice came through this year excluding ALL metabolic and genetic diseases which I thought was harsh - but they changed it to anything resulting from PSSM & CSNB after just an email from me. So pretty reasonable really.

I am with kbis they were brilliant with a claim last year and this year had a minor unrelated incident and they have worked very hard to find a link to not pay out for it and it's now been rejected and I honestly can't believe the lengths they went to rejecting it .....wouldn't recommend now!

Well I'm waiting on my first ever claim from KBIS (a tack room clearout by thieves - over £8,000) First claim in 8 years and I pay over £2,500 in premiums annually (not for horses directly - couldn't touch that!) Time will tell.

I was with KBIS a few years ago and they were fab they paid out immediately with a few claims on a very accident prone TB and then when my youngster was in hospital with Atypical Myopathy the cheque for over 3k was received within days.

I've not got my boy insured at min but would go with KBIS if I was to insure again.

Nfu, can't fault them. I have had several claims over the years the most recent was a saddle stolen and they paid out within 10 days of me making the claim.

Another one with a vote KBIS have been with them & PetPlan with no problems but have never had to thankfully claim. Know another livery who was with NFU and renewed with someone else due to having problems when her horse was ill she found them unhelpful but can't comment personally what with never being insured with them.
