I've been with Shearwater but they have bumped up the excess on my insurance - to either £300 or £500 from £150 last year ! Overall policy has gone up too to £900.

I've done an online quote with Petplan and the policy almost like for like comes out at almost £300 higher, even with a lower excess value.

Who do you use ? Any other recommendations greatly received thank you !

I've been with NFU for a long time, not the cheapest but they've paid out on claims no problem and were the cheapest to insure my trailer on my policy by a long way.

Everyone has gone up this year, did quite a big comparison recently as wasn't happy with current insurers and they are all high unless you go down the E and L route.

I've had good experiences with SEIB, Shearwater and NFU. I had a bad experience with 4counties/Towergate. Ended up with about 6 exclusions as they trawled through the vet history and started raising small issues from 5 years ago. Did manage to get the ridiculous ones removed but it took about 9 months and vets letters.

ETA when I did the comparison both KBIS and SEIB gave lots of different excess options which gave the possibility of significantly lower premiums if you are prepared to pay more upfront.

NFU have been outstanding with claims for my gelding, they've paid up every time without question. Price has doubled in the first year but to be expected having 2 claims and 1 maxing out.

Wouldn't touch Petplan with a barge pole anyway - had a bad experience.
