HORSE JUMPS CAR (Video)

My friend told me about this! Apparently the bit broke?! Not sure how true it is but I would have been bloody petrified if it had been me!

Not watched this clip yet but if it's alw from the vweekend I was there and have not seen such a terrifying sight before. Rider was amazing.

Yes the bit broke. I see it when they finally caught the horse in the stable area It only had the rings left on the bridle there was no middle bar at all from what i could see. Some rider thats all i can say

i heard it wasn't just a car it jumped, but tents, bikes, gates, ropes, the lot. amazing rider to just stay on. how terrifying. i just heard the loose horse call in the trailer park, didn't realise it still had a rider on until later!

My OH was in the stabling area when this happened.

The horse came from the XC down the horse walk behind the SJ ring (where I was). The rider wasn't moving at - she just sat totally still. They shut the five bar gate at the top of the horse walk, which it jumped. It then went round the lorry park, jumped the bonnet of one of the stabling stewards cars, the stringing by the shavings skip (she did give it a bit of kick at that point to make sure it jumped it cleanly) the ropes that two dogs were attached to by the side of a lorry, some bicycles & a tent.
It eventually stopped a few feet from it's stable. Both horse & rider unhurt. One car very very slightly dented on the bonnet.

Thats awsome!!!!

Goes to show that the reacuring threads asking about which bit to use to slow/stop a speeding horse are not so mundane after all, although I for one, won't be useing the bit that rider had chosen!

Fantastic rider!!

On the plus side I don't think she'll ever have to worry about any spooky fences! She did some job to stay with it and must have some nerve....bailing out could most certainly have made things worse if it got a fright at her falling off!

After the poor girl had galloped round the XC course - horse got back to the stables/lorry park (rider still on board) - how she didn't kill a lady walking in front of her as she galloped flat out past me, between lorries, I don't know - heading straight towards a lorry - turned 180 degrees back down other side - between narrow gap - over tent then another car and somehow got stopped by the stables - rider white as a sheet but not bailing out!!! Rider must have been in total shock after that .

Also can't believe that no one got hurt as horse went between XC course and lorry park as they are narrowish tracks (one car wide)

Would the horse have stopped if she had bailed out and stopped panicking and allowed natural herding instinct to take over???? difficult to know but I suppose rider's natural instinct is to stay on and try and stop! But heading flat out for the side of a 7.5 ton lorry I think I know what I would have done!

Blimey I was expecting something like we saw at the quarter horse museum with the rider stood on the horses back jumping an open top sports car. Not a freestyle round the lorry park. Glad no one was hurt and horse is fine.

supagran I hope she invested in a new bit!!! :)

Seriuos balls of steel, sounds like a once in a billion unfortunate incident, what a horsewoman to just go with it.

Bloody scary to watch!! Am very glad no-one was hurt, either horse or human.

But am I the only one who isn't sure why she stayed on, with no bit to help with steering or slowing down, I can't see what good it did? If the horse had hit the gate at speed she could have been killed.

It all happened so quickly. We saw this as it was happening as we were standing on the mound at Aston watching the XC and it was very scary as you can imagine. We were saying that we would have bailed but I suppose when she was in the XC field right at the start (the bit you see on the video) she was just tring to calm him and slow him herself and by the time he had got out of the xc field, everything is so close together she probably wouldn't have been able to without hitting stuff on landing.

I think you are less likely to get hurt by staying on a bolting horse. Bailing out is always likely to injure at that speed. Having said that, I am a total wimp and would have bailed out ASAP... and have done in the past.

Does anyone know who the rider was?

OMG what an amazing rider! What guts!! Pleased they were both okay though, must have been frightening! Good on her for taking horse back onto xc course for schooling, don't think I could've after that!
