thank you to the lovely people who decided to learn to paraglide in the field im riding around. I really appreciated the fact that you waited until i was level to throw it into the air and didnt even offer to help when my horse did a rather stylish backflip... no seriously thank you, i found it very funny too and the long walk home was just great...

I got half way round when i saw them so decided to head home in fastest route they just ignored the fact he was plunging around then threw it in the air. He reared right up then lost his balance and felll back on me. He doesnt have any cuts but t is quite flinty around there so super worried about him he was so shaken he kept slipping but trotted up sound so fingers crossed.

just found it outrageous they didnt come and check if either of us were ok didnt say sorry but DID LAUGH!! i was fuming but so worried i just burst into tears now worried my confidence is shot... :(
 
So sorry you have had this bad experience. I'm glad both of you are ok even tho a bit shaken.

do you know who these people are? I would report this to the Police I think, although they may say as it's on private land etc etc.

Perhaps a letter to the local paper might be in order, telling how disappointed you are that they didn't even come to see if you were ok.

Hope you soon get over this fright.
 
OMG! you poor love, that is just awful, I can't believe they just laughed, you need to find out who they are, do you know who owns the field, they must has needed permission, please don't lose you confidence that sort of thing is only going to happen once in a lifetime, any horse would have had the same reaction, it is lucky that you and your horse were not more seriously hurt, you did well to hold it together, I think I'd have cried and then punched them in the face, stupid stupid people, if you can't find out who they are then get your story in the local press and get the nearest 'club' for that sort of thing to make everyone aware that it is not a good idea to practice theie dangerous sport around horses and people riding and that the consequences of their actions could have ended a life today, it might make them think, as for you and your horse, give yourself and him some time and then maybe when you are back riding and he is okay get some large golf umbrella and a good friend to help you desensitise him, you will and can do it, good luck x
 
DON'T speak to me about paragliders... :mad: We had an incident earlier this year which sent a friend and another friends horse over a barbed wire fence and nearly killed the horse. Their response was "Oh well we had a nice day" - they weren't supposed to be using the farm that day due to a horse event with loads of kids there that they had been warned about months in advance!

Anyway I digress! Have the horse checked by a physio for any back problems. As for you take things easy, try and get a ride on a good steady horse and maybe have some lessons on your horse with an instructor who knows the situation.
 
im just disappointed surely help is just common sense. He's been put to bed will def get in tough with local clubs before i do anything drastic. I know hes a drama queen and typical tb but it could have been so much worse turns out ive cute my arm and face quite bad and my whole neck is seizing up... guess it whiplash so hot bath for me :(

in that case, a photo of your injuries along with your letter to the local paper and the local paragliding club should be next on your 'to do' list tomorrow
 
So sorry to hear of your experience and glad to hear you are both ok.

I guess when it comes to riding again, maybe see if someone can come out with you on foot just to build up and/or reassure you and your horse. You can also take some Bach Rescue Remedy before you next ride , this will help to alleviate any nerves. Also, try and remind yourself about the number of times you have ridden without incidence, try and get back into remembering how that felt, and soon you will be back up in the saddle.

Furthermore, I'd contact your local papers and highlight the issue there. Do you know of the paragliding group/school? Maybe you could complain to them directly. Not sure how much good it will do but it maybe worth the effort.

get your horse checked out by a chiro, get your saddle checked by a saddler-even if its not broken it could be squashed and therefore wont fit properly-get yourself down the doctors tomorrow to get a sick note and some painkilers/muscle relaxant(you will seixe up big time from tomorrow onwards) and seriously report them and claim all your expenses and lack of pay from their insurance! seriously - do it!
You could easily have been killed and your horse could easily have broken his back too.

thanks guys just sorting the lot(or what i can from sunday) will do the rest tomorrow but chiro etc done... made his feed and put some bute in it for tonight and the girls at the yard are going to do him for me tonight and trot him up and let me know how he is so that i can stay put... think i will have to get my hat checked :( as my head hurts quite bad now and it looks like its taken a battering... just happy we are all in one piece.
going to take the week off riding and just lunge him if he stays sound until saddle etc done...
 
I'd give him the week off too - even if he isn't seriously injured he will be bruised. Can you turn him out 24/7 for a week to stop him getting stiff?

Police won't give a stuff - private land and all that...otherwise known as "can't be arsed"
 
Hope you and your horse are ok. Im really shocked that they didn't check that you weren't hurt. If any normal other person seen an accident like that they would have rushed to help and make sure you were able to get home alright. Honestly, for all they knew you could have had a serious injury from that sort of fall, just cause you can't see an injury doesn't mean there isn't one. And just to laugh it off :mad::mad: *sweary word*

thank you yes i will do this my lovely vet was out riding so just to a look and said he seems perfectly fine... will be getting in touch with local clubs tomorrow though!!
 
What about you!!! Get yourself checked too, you can't be too careful where heads and necks are concerned. Hope you both feel better soon but please look after yourself too, I'm worried with you saying your neck is seizing up and your head hurts x
 
You poor thing, I really feel for you!!!!
Definitely get in touch with any local paragliding clubs round your area and ask if anyone was teaching or learning on this date, this time etc.
Its not even the fact that they didn't stop, but to not check you were okay is just ridiculous!!!!
Give him and yourself the week off and just relax and recover - definitely replace your hat and get yourself checked out

If they were paragliding though, didn't they lift the sail and take off? How could they apologise :confused:?

There was an article in H&H not long back about a horse seriously injured by a PG in Darwen. The horse was loose in the field, not being ridden.

Hope both you and horse aren't too sore and stiff.

no they were learning so just jumping into the air and coming back like 20m later... even so they saw him flip onto me so you would think they would check... thank you everyone cant get over how lucky we were!

Makes sense now :).

As somebody who has their PG license, I was confused.

Tbh, they shouldn't have lifted their sails whilst you were around but in their defence, not everybody is horse savvy.

I agree, they should have had the common decency to ask if you were okay.
 
I'm sorry you are hurt and hope your horse is OK. I'd give him a careful check tomorrow because adrenaline could have been masking any symptoms straight after such an awful experience.

I wonder if the paragliders could be liable for damage they have caused ? We all have a duty of care and they certainly didn't show any. It would be common sense to have halted the flight when they saw your horse panicking and faililng to offer assistance after the event was deplorable. Report it to the police.
 
It really makes me think that it is worth getting one of those cheap cycle cameras. Then if anyone does something awful like this, then there is video evidence to show the police.

Firstly, please get yourself to A&E you may have a head injury and need to have yourself checked out asap. If you can get a sports massage on yourself to ease your aching muscles and free up any tightness before it beds in.
Please get your horse checked by a vet and equine body worker if you can, seized muscles on both of you better dealt with at an early stage before they gum up.
Your saddle needs to be checked out for torsion and other possible tree damage.
I would report the incident to the police and also to your local press to let them know their stupidity could have had them standing in the dock on a manslaughter charge
Someone suggested on an earlier post to claim on their insurance if you find out who they are and i wholeheartedly agree.
I sincerely hope you are both alright after this hellish incident
 
I'm not normally a fan of the "no win, no fee" stuff, but in this case the words "Have you had an accident and it wasn't your fault?" are the first that spring to mind. Get onto it, other people need to be more considerate to horses and their riders or they need to face some consequences.

Due to the circumstances think I agree with this, we have PL insurance, so should they, maybe they need a wake up call to there responcability to others, even if it is private land I can't see it making any odds to you claiming for injuries to you or your horse, they won't be laffing then will they, headdicks :mad:

^^ this! do it, Too many people just leave it alone, it could happen again, or to someone else. Glad you are okay! Take action against these IDIOTS!
