Horse kick, on Real A&E Sky 1

O.M.G the worse horse kick injury I have ever seen, and the poor lady was still on her horse untill the Air ambulance arrived...

Not watching it but think it might be a repeat.

Was it on her knee? Was she still sat on the horse when the air ambulance arrived as she had no idea how to get off? I think there was a bed making company on the site so she was carried into their showroom.

Little bit of blood on her jodhpurs hid an absolutely horrendous injury didn't it?

Puppy probably not a great post for you to read with your experiance maybe show them what a horse kick in the face can do....if you still have your pictures ;) :)

Next consultation with new, more specialist plastic surgeon is in May.. :o

OMG - never seen those before, what the hell happened there, do you mind repeating the story please?
THAT is shocking, you poor thing. How are you feeling now?

puppy, i was thinking of you last sunday when i had a fall, i ended up underneath horses feet. i rolled into a ball and when i looked u to see what was happening, i got kicked in the mouth, i mean just the mouth, burst my lips inside and broke my teeth. Can't believe i didn't end up looking like the above pics. I was so upset about my teeth, which are now fixed thanks to my fab dentist. I really know that I had a lucky escape!
Can you post a pic of how you look now please.

They've shown that epp of A&E quite a few times now (mums a fan but can never remember which one it is by the description so ends up watching the first 5mins over and over) and I never fail to be grossed out by her leg, or impressed by the gymnastics of the horse that managed to do it!

Puppy, I can't believe its been so long now! That was one scary night on the forum!

In all honesty, I don't think the pics even show anywhere near how bad it was. One of my oldest friends/ex bf came to visit me in hospital on Christmas day (2 days later), and even with a ward of only 5 beds, and only 2 patients there, he didn't recognise me and was about to walk out again. I was completely deformed. :(

My horse had been on box rest since the 1st December (2008) and had surgery on her hind legs (PSD - her weakness there is probably the only reason that I am still alive!) on the 8th. I had been given the go ahead from the vets to walk her in hand the day before and on the 23rd, after having had her quietly tied on the yard for the best part of 2 hours whilst I was pampering her/washing her feet and tail etc, I went to take her for a walk. We got a couple of hundred yards up the road and she was bouncing about a fair bit, not that much more than most of us are used to on an occasional basis. Then she got extra spooked by a rattling pick up and started to lark around a lot more. She pulled me forwards and then as she went to bounce/buck/take off again, she double barreled me in the face (completely accidentally, she'd never intentionally kick anyone :() Only because of the flashbacks I had in the hospital, I can remember those last few seconds of it now, the blur of her hindquarters, the loud crack and then blackness.

Thankfully as I was already being pulled forwards then I fell that way when I was knocked out - v lucky, as it meant I didn't drown on the blood. I came too in a pool of blood, on an empty country road, and really not sure what had happened. Sod's law, I didn't have any phone signal, so I had to crawl up the road holding my jaw on until I could get some to phone 999, even then I wasn't able to tell them what had happened, which was rather bad because they then underestimated my injury and sent a normal ambulance. Once they got there they realised I really needed a helicopter, but it was a little late by then...

Unsurprisingly, I was a bit of a gibbering wreck whilst crawling around on the road, but I also managed to phone a friend of mine - his family live in the village and have a yard there. He couldn't work out what I was on about, but got in his car and drove full pelt to my yard, finding me lying on the road on his way. I was actually phoning him cause I was worried about my horse :o and he and his sister were absolute stars at getting the vet to come and check her over, :D he also had the unfortunate task of phoning my mother, which he did, playing it down nicely with 'she's got a cracker of a black eye...Oh, but they have got the blue light going' which kept my mother moderately calm, although didn't really prepare her for arriving at the hospital to find me in resus, complete with a crash trolly beside me on stand by and bit of my face exposing the bone..!

I broke both eye sockets, both cheekbones, my sinuses, my nose a lot, and my upper and lower jaw many times. The fractures went though my skull to my brain, but thankfully not deeper. That wound on my upper lip that is taped up in the photos was ripped right open to the bone, so I had a great big hole merging my nose and mouth. Needless to say, it's a flipping miracle that I am alive! I had my jaw wired up for the best part of 2 months, and although it's now 15 months on I still have to have more surgery on the worst of my scars and my nose. This cold and damp weather makes it all v painful with all the fractures I had, and I am having some rather serious probs with my neck, where the muscles were damaged from the force of being kicked. I also have a lot of headaches, lots of teeth pain, exhaustion and concentration and memory problems. But, like every new doctor I meet says, I am so very, very lucky to be alive :) :) The most gutting part of it all is that my beloved horse has since been written off :( :(

PS - this probably puts my "nightmare" post about my horse being on box rest in a better context as well :D

Here's another pic of me after the first surgery:

Aww bless you. Which night do you mean? When I had the first surgery? I don't think you guys knew about it until some time after, when I was well enough to post, as Weevil and Sunflower were out of phone signal, who are the only forum users that my mother knew well enough back then to try to phone...

Oh lord, what a story, put me in tears.

Thank goodness you are getting better all the time now. Are you able to work at all with the pain and memory loss?
Can't believe this hasn't put you off riding/horses all together.

Wish I hadn't looked now, whole thing has made me feel qeasy.

Blimey puppy , I'm sure everyone on here's hearts go out to you with with as much love and hugs as anyone can give on a forum X

Nope! I heard "we'll wire your jaw up for a couple of months" and thought, great, back to work soon then. Well I tried that, march to may, but didn't manage many shifts at all (was working in a restaurant at the time). 6 months later, of no income, I gave in and claimed for sickness benefits, but they have now stopped... I was supposed to be returning to my degree shortly after the time it happened, but that has been postponed and with my memory problems and college threatening me with 're-entry tests' I'm going to have to fight to keep my place at Cambridge. I can't drive/be a passenger on any transport without my neck hurting to the point I feel sick. I've been paying for private osteo treatment for my neck with some relief, but it comes and goes, especially in this weather. I can't run/ride/cox/work. I've put on 2 stone. I have lots of sleep problems, and pain; permanent 24/7 pain :( But like I say, I'm lucky to be alive! :)

Wow, that is a horrendous experience to go through. :( Make sure that you're eating all the right things to help your memory, and to rebuild damaged tissues. Plenty lean protein, anti-oxidants, Omegas and minerals.

Well, I'm in surgery at the end of next week for second operation to repair damage from a fall last spring. Something to look forward to, and good timing right at the start of the season :(

And we do all this for fun and recreation don't we!!! :)

I hadn't really thought about it like that, but I *think* I am. I eat a lot of fish! And a crazy amount of greens. Oh, and tomatoes by the packet per day! I've been trying to cut out the carbs and wheat though, as the weight gain is terribly depressing :(

Good luck with your surgery :) Hope it goes well. x

Sounds like you're taking really good care of yourself. You should probably think about supplement on the oils - a really good quality Omega 3 supplement, the cells in the brain need certain fats to repair, but of the right kind. Great idea keeping the carbs and wheat down, but make sure you are eating enough not to feel down with low energy and blood sugar. Seeds, nuts, things like 9 bar snacks - all good. Bread and pasta bad!

These things take a long time to repair - so be patient. :-)

Holy cow - you've just put a good visual on what nearly happened to me 2 days ago! You're one tough cookie to go through all that!
